... Went down to a waterfall too, nice to see bits of everything. I spent most of the afternoon in the hairdressers getting my hair turned back to red, had such a fun time chatting to the girls who work there and the customers and they did a pretty good job on my hair too.

Nicky, the girl who did my hair was fantastic, I loved her to bits, I tried to convince her to call in sick and run off to New ...

Came back and made a proper American sandwich with 3 layers of meat and 4 layers of cheese. All this took most of the day so we spent the evening watching DVD’s (Battlestar Galactica) and chilling out.
Elmira, New York, United States amyusa09... there ready to meet me complete with a sign with my name which was pretty funny (I had joked he should do it). We set off for a couple of hours drive back to Scott’s new place in Elmira, missed the turn-off because we were so busy chattering but made it there eventually. Stopped off to pick up some real loose-left tea on the way, good plan. Had pizza, shower then a big sleep.
Elmira, New York, United States amyusa09... up on the 190 to Rochester.

The I90 is an older road, but its smooth sailing. Not a lot of traffic, and a beautiful sunny day. At Rochester I took the 390 down to the south end of the state. What a beautiful drive. The colors were out on the trees, and about 1/2 way down there was on the horizon a wind farm with 20 or 30 windmills turning lazily in the wind. One interesting thing, was that there were at least 1/2 dozen dead ...

One of the bumper stickers in Ithaca says that "Ithaca is gorges" and they are everywhere.

Ithaca is a college town with both Ithaca College and Cornell University finding their homes there. It is a town of hills in much the same way that San Francisco and Seattle have hills only they have snow and ice in the winter. We were told the story of a ...
Ithaca, New York, United States gabbeec... limited, there must be SOME better choice than that one!
- Luckily, Buttermilk Falls was at the entrance of the campground, so we were able to see the falls without hiking, which we would not have done in the rain. The falls looked nice, and there was a natural swimming pool at the base, but the weather prevented us from having any fun there.
- It was a good thing that we had already discussed just sleeping ...
Ithaca, New York, United States cgibbons18... rush hour!

The drive from Niagara to Ithaca was beautiful. The rolling hills covered in trees formed a verdant backdrop to the laughter and friendship in the car. We arrived with only one slight misunderstanding with Google maps at the William Henry Miller Inn and fell in love immediately. We booked this B&B on a recommendation from Jay who had stayed there ...
Ithaca, New York, United States gabbeec... has a loving home for my lengthy stay in Lesotho. THANK YOU MIKE!!! Hopefully we can work out a friendly custody arrangement when I get back. In closing of my last US-based entry I just want to say thank you to all my friends and family. As someone smart said once, "its not the destination, its the journey" that counts. For everyone that has been a part of my journey so far, I hope the next two years treat you well and I'll see ya in 2010! Wishing you peace and love Kristan

Add the immense forest cover and you have an awe-inspiring set of scenery. It also explains why, once canals were built linking the lakes to the Hudson River and thus New York, the early American Industrial Revolution based on water powered textile mills occurred here. Just like the English Midlands and Yorkshire. So an area of staggering natural beauty. Especially for ...
