Today we checked out of Westgate. It's a bigger deal to check out of a timeshare resort than a hotel since you have to take out the garbage and gather your linens and start your dishwasher etc. We asked for a late checkout the night before but was told we would have to wait til morning. So we called at 8am and they gave us til 11 (it was 10) so …

We are still battling IT infrastructure, but at least have the music situation mostly resolved. Scott LOVES the eagles, Hotel California has been played 4 times so far for those keeping score ...
After DC we hired a car from Knoxville and headed to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. We stayed in a town called Gatlinburg and the only way I can describe it so that everyone understands.... It's like being at Disneyland without the rides but all the attractions and fast food restaurants that you could think of. It had so many mini golf places, Ripley's believe it or not attractions, cars from movies, old fashion ...
... rattlesnakes. I told myself that snakes don’t come out at night because they need warmth. But night is when the mice, their food source, start scurrying around the shelter, so maybe they did brave the cooler darkness. Once that fear embedded itself in my mind, every slithery interaction between bags and pads reminded me of snakes, and I huddled atop my tiny pad, trying to keep my assorted limbs up off the floor so I wouldn’t accidentally kick a snake and be bitten ...
Happy Labor Day People (though we will make the argument that we labored more yesterday)
today is Waterfall challenge #2. This one was Grotto falls and only 3~ish miles and supposedly not so uphill. (This being a waterfall I was not going to be fooled by the promise of 'no' uphill...)
We carried a lighter load today (smart move #1) and brought along our water shoes ...

First glance LOVED this hotel and was so happy I have booked her. Beautiful lobby and the guy at the desk was so nice and helpful and even called us when our room was ready and offered me ice for my cooler or to refrigerate my medicine while we waited. The room itself was nice but then I realized it was pretty dirty. So much so that I actually ended up getting cleaner and a cloth from the maid and did it myself. I have never, in all the hotels I have stayed at around the world EVER felt the need to clean my own room so for this to happen at a Hilton was so disappointing for me. And it wasn't like they just hurried today but that this room has not been cleaned right in a LONG time. There was dust on every table and thick too. And there was food stuck on to all the cards and other things in the room including what appeared to be cupcake icing all over the channel guide for the TV. The bed is also disappointing. It has some adjustment on the side for softness but I am not sure its working and the sheets do not fit the bed so it makes the whole thing feel cheap. The linens are not as nice as other Hilton properties as well. But the decor is nice and the location is really good...on the end of town closest to the park. I have a refrigerator and a microwave in the room which is nice. The ac works well and is not loud. There is free parking and a short walk to the main road. There is free wifi which actually works and is convenient to use! There is a fireplace in the room and its very nice and the room is well appointed. In fact if it was not for the cleaning issue (which is obviously a serious problem) I would have easily given this 5 stars. The only other thing I would change was the jacuzzi. Its outside and by a fire pit off the lobby area and quite large and beautiful but the jets don't work so its just circulating the water and not actually massaging anything really.
