Arrive in Calgary
Took a night flight from Seattle to Calgary. Arrive in Calgary at 11 PM. No hassle going through immigration and custom. Went directly to bed...
Calgary.
We set off from Banff to Calgary along the motorway. I had instructed Maggie (navigator) to take us the fastest route. However we called in for a picnic lunch at a roadsise information office and they advised taking a more scenic route 1a - this turned out to be good advice as we passed through some very nice towns. It seems that this route was …
Calgary
... does this mean I am a day younger then I would have been if I stayed at home? There is so much to think about it is making my brain hurt so I think I'll stop thinking about it now. So back to the road where James & Caroline had now stopped laughing at me! The view driving back to Banff in itself was worth the trip to Calgary. Driving back in you are greeted by snow topped mountains which surround you & reawaken your senses to how ...
We really do love Calgary!
... great views of the mountains, easy access to year-round recreation and activities, first class accommodations and restaurants, nominal traffic (compared to southern Ontario's mess) and friendly, courteous people (Ontarians could learn some road manners from these folks!) and jobs!!!!
After a week with our friends, it was time to part ways with their vacation time over and we needed to head out. Sad to say goodbye but the highway beckoned..........

Time Flies...
... incredible experiences together like discovering Machu Picchu, sleeping in tents in the jaguar-infested (well, we saw tracks!) Amazon rainforest, driving across the Salt Flats for days on end and meeting some of the most welcoming, fun and kind-hearted people in all of South America. Then, in the course of being home from South America for less than one week, I was boarding a plane from Halifax to Calgary on a one-way ticket! My parents generously offered to book me a ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hilton Garden Inn Calgary Airport
Excellent hotel, great location, service and quality
For a comfortable, relaxing and convenient hotel close to Calgary Airport, this hotel really does the trick.
We had not expected too much for 50gbp for the room but after a long flight in from London had decided it would be fine to just take a room before driving up to the Rocky Mountains the following morning. Our expectations may have been low, just looking for a room to sleep in, but they were surpassed substantially!
Calgary Airport is easy for arrival, the car hire location only across from the baggage claim - and the Hilton Garden Inn a 5 minute drive away. The welcome was, like all of the service, warm, nothing was too much trouble and someone was on hand to deal with any query. Checkin was smooth, the staff able to make (good) recommendations for where to eat locally (there is plenty of choice) and the room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, the hotel quiet and the location excellent - for either getting into Calgary or heading to the mountains. I'd highly recommend staying here if you arrive in from abroad in the afternoon or after a long journey, perfect way to catch up on jetlag or recover before heading off.
Value for money was exceptionally good. We had a sound night's sleep and were able to make our way refreshed the following morning. Hotel has good facilities too - a nice sized pool and a restaurant that was fine for breakfast, plenty of breads, pastries, juices and cereals.
We did venture to the Cattle Baron steakhouse for dinner - not far from the hotel, recommended by them and lots of locals - food was good, inexpensive and somewhere to grab a quick meal after a long journey. If you have more time or are more refreshed we would highly recommend the River Cafe in downtown Calgary. It is on a small island in the middle of the river just off the Claire market area in downtown. A wonderful setting just a short walk from the business districts, the food was exceptional - very Gordon Ramsay style, clearly popular and with good reason. We were able to sit out and have a drink on the terrace, inside it is furnished a little like an old lodge, huge stone surround fire, stone floor and candlelit. Excellent way to spend an evening relaxing.
Great Staff!
Nice hotel, like all Hilton Garden Inn's. The whole staff is very helpful, friendly and go out of thier way to help in anyway they can. If you're a Hilton Honors member you get coupons for water, Continental breakfast ($3 to up grade to hot made to order) and a $5 coupon for thier pantry (ice cream, drinks, and personal items). It can book full quickly, so try to plan in advance. Free shuttle to airport and local resturants.
Ok Hotel, Value Slipping
Nice hotel, same as every other Garden Inn. Breakfast is not included and will cost $9.00 for shabby buffet. Adding eggs and bacon makes it $13.00 Each person. Restaurant service PAINFULLY slow but friendly. Other hotels in the area include breakfast in the rate so check around for the best deal. Stayed here last year for $119.00 cad but they have jacked the rates up considerably in the last year. This stay cost 50.00 more per night. Good for 1 or two nights stay max!
Perfect
We stayed at the Garden Hilton Inn Jan 5/06.It was perfect, room service was great, had a indoor pool, small gym, rooms were VERY clean, and the service was amazing.
We were also booked for Jan 13/06.On our way back from Mexico Our flight was held over in Vancouver,so therefore didn't make it back in time. There were 4 other couples booked for that same date that didn't make it for the same reason. The hotel was kind enough NOT to charge any of us. Exceptionable service was given so therefore we WILL be staying here again. We highly recommend the Hilton Garden Inn over any of the other airport hotels we have stayed at in the past.
Fabulous from start to finish
We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for one night before flying out to Vegas. It is located just off McKnight Blvd. in Calgary, close to the airport. The hotel is quite new and very well appointed. Our room had a king size bed, coffee maker, microwave, bar fridge, work station for business travellers, and was beautifully furnished. It was clean and comfortable. Other amenities included free coffe or tea in the lobby for guests, a very nice lounge with double-sided fireplace and restaurant. There is a free shuttle service to and from the airport (and the driver gave us complimentary cookies from the chef!) and you can park your vehicle for free for the duration of your stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room service was quick and tasty, and the price is very affordable at $109 a night. Make a reservation ahead of time though as it's usually booked solid three to four nights a week.
If only our room in Vegas had been as nice as this or the hotel as well-appointed, but that's a whole 'nother review....!
HIlton Garden Inn Calgary Airport - Great Stay!
My mother and I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for one night (Sept 2005)before catching an early plane. It is relatively new, 5 or 6 years old, and nice and close to the airport. So, I was expecting typical airport noise. Fortunately, I cannot say I heard anything to disturb my sleep.
The rooms are spacious, we had 2 double beds, and very clean. There was no sign of wear and tear anywhere. The restaurant was undergoing some renovations, but it had absolutely no effect on the excellent service and delicious food. I was suitably impressed with the value of both the stay and the restaurant. In the morning, we had booked a time for the shuttle to take us to the airport and it was on time and no extra charge. We were also able to leave our car parked there for the week without incident.
Overall, I know I will be staying here again. It is a great value for a hotel conveniently located to the airport.
Relax by the Airport.
An excellent choice for an airport hotel. Convenient 24 hr. shuttle service to and from the airport/rental cars. Super clean with very comfy beds and pillows. Delicous restaurant. Wonderful pool and hot tub. Free internet use in the business center. Professional staff. I will definitely stay here again the next time I'm flying in and out of Calgary.
Good, comfortable, convenient hotel
Very comfortable hotel with the usual Hilton quality facilities and service. Premium room good value - spacious and comfortable, with amazingly little aircraft noise. In house restaurant has good food at reasonable prices, and service is excellent throughout. Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Lots of parking and reasonably convenient for the C-Train at Rundle on the Whitehorn line to go downtown.
One of the best restaurants in the area for steaks is Carvers restaurant at the Sheraton Cavalier. Expensive but great food and great service.
Great location
I could not say anything that I didn't like about the hotel. Friendly staff, quiet room, nicely decorated and comfortable beds. I would stay here again. There are other exits from the airport so it was tricky finding it. Appears to be fairly new.
A Gem Right at the Airport
My family stayed 2 nights at this well appointed hotel in Calgary. It's located about a 5 minute drive from the airport. The rooms are large with comfortable beds, a large bathroom and a small kitchenette. The staff is very helpful and friendly. My daughters loved the enclosed pool and hottub. The lobby is nicely decorated. All in all, a great little hotel centrally located to the airport. Be sure to eat at Earl's right down the road!!
