Belgian Christmas

We took a trip organized through the Social Club to Brussels for the Christmas markets. Others on the trip were Beth, Adam, D'Andre and Andrea. We left Friday morning.... early. The bus caught the train and we were in Brussels before we knew it. After a quick check in we were off for the important stuff, beer. Le Bier Circus was first on our list but closed. So we headed for the main square and Mort Subite. http://www.alamortsubite.com After a few beers and snacks at Mort Subite we attempted ...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hilton Brussels City Hotel

Convenient Business Hotel

from Jodles
I redeemed some Hilton Honours points to stay here for one night. The location is great - lots within walking distance, and right next to the Metro Station Rogier. The hotel decor was all newish and quite modern. The public areas were neet and well kept. My room was quite large with twin beds (comfortable), a large desk with laptop connection, and a chaise longue (nice for lounging on to watch Eastenders!) Decor was nice, with big cushions and wooden floors.

The bathroom was a good size too, but a bit spartan - that victorian public convenience decor and was a bit shabby round the edges. And one of my pet hates - those wallmounted hairdryers that are useless for any thing but the "wind tunnel" look! Nice selection of toiletries though. There was also a safe and a minibar.

I had a room service breakfast at the exorbitant cost of 28 euros - was prompt and good quality - but Le Meridien this isn't! The room service/brasserie menu was a little disappointing and quite expensive too. But the service in the hotel was very efficient and polite so no complaints really. I think for a night or 2 on business or a weekend away this is a perfectly pleasant place. Not maybe a spot for a romantic get away.

Unhelpful staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
On the last night of the visit (new years eve) my boyfriend was pick pocketed and assaulted. We asked the staff to contact the police, which they did after much persuading. The police were terrible and told us they could not come around till the next morning. The member of staff Mark 22 (he would not give his surname) told me that "different country different rules" when I questioned him he said that not to expect anything and that this is "normal" so not to bother. I feel that the staff could be more sympathetic to the problem and try to help. I expected a certain level of service from this hotel but did not receive, considering we had paid for this experienced, to stay at the Hilton. The Hilton has a reputation for being superb. We wanted to bring this to your attention

Your sincerely

Not all that good

from A TripAdvisor Member
there are many possitives and negatives.

the location was great, staff were very polite, hotel was very modern in appearance, however the rooms were not that nice, they were small and very basic. they did not fit with the rest of the hotel. i would not agree that this is a 4 star hotel once seeing the rooms. i was not dissatisfied but would not go back. think carefully about waht your wanting out of the hotel before choosing the hilton brussles city.

A decent hotel in a good location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just spent three nights at the Hilton and I have to say it was a very friendly hotel with clean rooms and a great breakfast, also in a good location.

A big word of warning though:- We printed our map off the Hotels.com web site and having got off the train at the nearby station, promptly decided to walk to the hotel, as shown on the map, as it is only 300m away. Carrying ruck sacks and all our valuables we walked to the location shown. This was about 2 miles the other way, in completely the wrong location from where the hotel actually is. We ended up at 10pm, in a dark and very unfriendly location, being approached by drug dealers and felt extremely intimidated. On finally making it back to the station and a prompt taxi to the hotel, the staff were shocked at to where we had been, due to the map being inaccurate and we were quite shaken by the whole experience (and we are regular travellers). I know the maps aren't guaranteed, but we were lucky to get to the hotel unscathed.

Apart from that experience the hotel was good with a great breakfast and good gymnasium but surprised that there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room.

Small but Friendly

from A TripAdvisor Member
The gym is very nice and cozy. However, the room was very small, it didn't feel like a hotel room at all. But friendly enough because kids are free. My three-year-old daughter enjoyed the special treatment at the restaurant during breakfast.

Executive floor really nice

I stayed with a friend that is a Diamond HH member, perhaps that was the difference. The bathroom was large, had a seperate shower and tub. The bed was comfortable and the room was large. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Best part was the location to both the metro and the train system.

Good Central Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Date of Stay: June 3 - 7, 2004 Great central location. Near the Airport Express sky terminal - so finding the hotel was not a problem. Walking distance to Rue Royale and the Grote Markt, St Michel St Gaudel Cathedral, the famous "Mary Chocolatier", and Royal Palace. Rooms as smaller than American rooms, but similar to rooms we've stayed at in Europe. Staff were friendly and helpful, hotel is pleasant and clean. We enjoyed the FREE breakfast buffet (eggs, bacon, sausages, fruits, cerals, breads, yogurt, and pancakes). Health facilities were great, especially the sauna. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel. Note: Do not expect a huge closet space. The theme of the hotel is modern and somewhat minimalist.

Average

from Mikey_Vienna
I spent three nights there, and I was disappointed. I have stayed at a Hilton twice, now I will never do it again. Rooms are tiny (London size), bathroom is shaming and under average. Breakfast only offered limited choice. But I appreciated the wellness area with steam bath, sauna and fitness room. Staff was always helpful and courteous, and the location is good. Nevertheless I would never stay there again.

Only ok

from A TripAdvisor Member
Four stars in no way justified by this hotel although it is a comfortable stay, a friendly hotel and within easy reach of the Grand Place area. Room was incredibly small, possibly a single for two people. The shower room (no bath) was a large toilet and for most people would be impossible to turn around in. Bedroom very small but well appointed. Our temperature was stuck at 26 degrees and rather than sweat it out, having complained with no result, we just turned the radiator off altogether. View awful, 1970s office blocks, building site and railway station!! Did have BBC1 to look at though! No coffee/kettle but ironing board and hairdryer. Hotel in modern design to make it look more spacious presumably, cold wooden floors etc. Very small lifts for people with luggage. Service generally excellent which made up for other problems. Pleasant bar/restaurant. Breakfast extremely average for class of hotel and certainly in no way could be described as 'american' as it seemed to be by the hotel. Food was nothing special and lukewarm or cold. Ok for price at the end of the day.
