Today was not a total washout. We just did almost nothing that we set out to do for the day. How do you not get confused between all the museums in a town? Only go to one!

The original plan was to go to the People's History Museum and MediaCity, the new BBC and ITV centre. Then it turned out that Jess, my step-niece-in-law, with whom we're staying, would be going there (it being her place of work and all - she's a researcher for children's television there) at a time that ...

... a window seat (hooray, my favourite) and had great views once we had cleared the rain clouds over Malta.

I managed to spot the mountains of Corsica then the weather really cleared as we crossed the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees; the good views continued and I saw the Eastenders map come to life as we flew over London. The sun was shining as we flew ...

... congenial row companions (too stingy to pay for reserved seats!). We had great views of the Alps but particularly of Mt Etna in Sicily, snow-clad in the sunshine and very visible against the bright blue sky – my neighbours were very kind & let me take pictures whilst leaning past them.
