Historical Traveler Reviews of Hilton Luxor

Hilton, Good Facilities, Needs Updating.

from zippy100
Just returned from Egpyt with 3 nights in Cairo and 4 nights in this hotel.

The first hotel was amazing so had quite high expectations for the Hilton.I was disappointed with the room. It was half of the size of the one in Cairo, and the balcony could only fit one person standing. The view of the balcony was some run down town houses. Just looking out there for 2 minutes I was hounded with kids calling me.

The room was more 2-3 star. The beds were low with no fancy bedding. However it was clean and ok for 4 nights. The hotel itself however deserves it's four stars. With plenty of restuarants, four in total. Several shops, a nightclub, and a pool bar which is open in the evenings. Nice for sitting by the nile watching the sun go down and watching the cruise ships go by.

The pool and pool area was a bit tatty and needed updating. We always got a sun bed though and there was daily workout sessions in the pool for the energenic.

We did attempt to walk out of the hotel gates to central luxor and Karnak. Although this can be done on foot, we had to abandon this idea within minutes, with the local kids and traders pouncing on us as soon as we stepped out. Luckily there was a hourly bus service to town, although why they drop you off right where the many caleshe drivers are I don't know. Before you have even looked to see where you are, they drag you off and hassle you. A more appropriate drop off would have been better. Saying this the bus service is a must.

To sum up, the hotel was fine and we spent many an evening at the bar looking out to the nile rather than have the hassle in town. The setting was amazing and I will never forget it. The hotel has very good facilities, the people are excellent and helpful. We need not attempt any of the breakfasts or meals there so can't comment on that.

The down points are the rooms and maybe a bit way out to all the sights.

I would pay a bit more for the Winter Palace.

Three times a year!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
we have stayed at the Luxor Hilton at least three times per year for the last six years. we regularly meet people who do the same. After staying in several of the other hotels in Luxor we finally found the Hilton to suit us the best. Yes its a little bit tatty in places and yes the internet room is one old computer in a glass cupboard but the excellent staff, good food, great position and peace and quiet more than make up for this.we have stayed at the hotel as a family with teenage children and as a couple and we have never failed to have an excellent time. we would highly recommend this hotel especially for a few days relaxation after a trip to Cairo or a busy cruise down to Aswan. For those of you looking for European four star standards stick to Portugal or Tenerife.(please)

Right on the Nile

As others have said, the hotel is in need of a makeover, but overall it was pleasant. Once on the property, you feel much calmer because of its perfect setting on the Nile. Great breakfast buffet.

Don't stay here

from jmct
I would not advise anybody to stay at this hotel, on arrival we were informed that we did not have the double room we requested even though a supplement had been paid to upgrade our room instead we were given a twin.

When we entered the room there was a film of dust over every piece of furnitur, the cups were dirty, the carpet had not been hoovered and the toilet leaked, just to make things even better when we switched on the air conditioning the room was filled with the smell of stagnant water.

The hotel is shabby and very tired looking and could not be classed as a 4* under any stretch of the imagination, we stayed 1 night and checked out 6 days early as we could not put up with the smell or standards in the room. We moved to the Sheraton which was cheaper, clean and more comfortable although the room was smaller.

Charming if a bit tatty

from ChiefWeasel
Eight of us stayed in the Luxor Hilton over Christmas and had a great time. Some of the interior could do with a facelift, but the staff are charming, the rooms are clean and the food better than most hotels in Luxor and we loved the location on the Nile outside the town. The heated pool is a definite plus in the winter season. Of course it depends what you are looking for and if it is glossy new interiors you would be better off at the Meridien. But if you enjoy a more "Egyptian" ambiance and a little more local charm, you could spend a very happy few days here.

Very peaceful

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Luxor Hilton last April and enjoyed the fact that it is slightly out of town and away from all the other big hotels - it is very quiet and peaceful there without all the street noise to be found in Luxor. Easy enough to get into town, particularly if using the free shuttle. Pretty gardens and very friendly staff. Rooms were okay but nothing fantastic. Great breakfasts, and fairly wide range of restaurants on-site (Egyptian, Italian, Chinese...). Walking distance to Karnak which was great as it enabled us to stroll through the outskirts of some of "real" Luxor without the constant hassle one experiences in the centre of town. Very good fresh-squeezed juices to be had along the way, as well as an Internet cafe.

In need of an overhaul

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is another hotel in Luxor that needs some renovating done. I stayed for a week and there are positive and negative aspects to the hotel.

My room was fine - size was decent and clean and with a nice view overlooking the Nile. There is a teeny tiny balcony which I didn't really use. I liked my room more in hindsight as it was above the standards of the New Winter Palace and Novotel rooms which I also stayed in. It definitely wasn't a western type 5 star room.

The security was absolutely fine if anyone is concerned. They have a large barrier gate that is manned by security and then a long drive down to the entrance to the hotel. I was never concerned about this aspect.

It is not based in central luxor but this could be an advantage - I enjoyed this. We had a private driver and the distance meant it was quieter and more relaxing than the centre of town.

Breakfast was included in my package and it was always filling and a good choice. The pool is looking very worn but there is a cosy bar area that overlooks the Nile and is a really pleasant way to watch the sun go down over the West Bank.

My biggest complaint was with the advertised Gym? It is only open from 9am to 5pm and is based in one of their rooms? Only one person can use it at a time - or so I was told and after numerous arguments with front desk I was finally allowed to use it when another person was in the room. Although the running equipment did not work...which of course was the only piece I needed to use?

Hilton empty

from tru-ryder
Tired looking and not as glam as the town hotels. loved it for the peace and quiet. Pool quiet, plenty of sunbeds available and staff magnificent in the bars and eateries. Housekeeping excellent couldn't find fault. Hotel manager I believe quiet new but after our visit is reviewing his procedures. After two days was asked to settle bill as it had exceeded 1000 LE (£88). It was the wording of the letter that was offensive but all was resolved by the rep. Not informed of their policy on arrival as that may have been of help. Hairdresser by his own admittance not qualified and does not work for the Hilton although he professed to do so.

Food was plentiful and no cause for complaint as we had no tummy upsets the whole fortnight in Egypt. Are looking forward to going back to the Hilton in March.

Hilton magic

from MaccyB
When a hotel has "Hilton" attached to its name you do expect luxury and luxury is what you get. We stayed in this hotel for our honeymoon and on arrival we had been assigned into a twin room, but the staff were very apologetic and soon moved us. The grounds were lush and the setting was fantastic - the food wasn't too bad either. The only thing that spoiled the holiday was bad tummies, but that was hardly the hotels fault. Would recommend this hotel to anyone taking a trip to luxor.

Do not stay here

from tosl
why pay 5 star prices for 1 star service -

stayed there in february 2004

no taxi or airport service-you do it all your own with a lousy hourly service to town

screwed up our flight reservations -held on to our tickets for two days instead of lettiing us actually deal with egyptair

phones were broken

internet cafe was one outdated machine

front desk knew nothing

lost our discounted price so we had to pay more

just stay in town for less hassles - however the food was good and housekeeping was amazing -good luck to the new manager...he needs it
