Venice..
Hmmmm, must admit to being in two minds about Venice (the island)...
We had a good nights sleep and breakfast at the hotel, so we were off and running into an overcast, but rain free day by 9.00am.
Our hotel is based on the mainland, in the city of Mestre. A 10 minute bus ride across the causeway and we were "on" Venice.
Once a watery …
Venice, Italy
On our last morning on board the Seabourn Quest, I woke up and looked outside to see that the sun was just rising and we were approaching Venice. The last time we sailed into Venice on a cruise ship in 2009, we had slept through it, so Scott and I wanted to make sure we didn't miss the opportunity to experience this time. We headed out to our …
Venice Venice Venice!
We left our campsite for the little boat that would take us to Venice around 9ish in the morning. It brought us straight to Venice city. There we started with a walking tour around the city. After the walking tour we had a glass blowing demonstration. It was pretty cool watching them shape the glass into all shapes and sizes. We had time to ourselves after that and just roamed the streets of Venice. It wasn't complicated at all because of we were to get lost ...
The Classic Water City
Next on the must-see list of Italy was Venice. For pure wow factor alone, this may be one of my all time favorite cities. The island portion of Venice is truly fascinating with no motor vehicles or really even bicycles, because anything with wheels would need to navigate a veritable maze of waterways, bridges, and stairs. Transportation by boat is the norm and the water buses are just as efficient as a regular city bus with a no nonsense pick up and drop off and move on routine. One of ...

TravelPod Member ReviewsHilton Garden Inn Mestre
The rooms are modern, comfortable and clean. The mini bar system is silly as you have to go to reception to buy a drink, plus have the bar in the lobby open it for you as the rooms do not have a bottle opener. Very annoying.
