The tastiest food on the boat was the popcorn. The dining room service was atrocious; food was handled without gloves or the use of tongs; food was left out all day uncovered; tables weren't cleared or cleaned - just to name a few concerns. The inside of Gus' was bare with funny signs, cracked bricks, and toilets with rather visible plumbing, this was a sign that it's food spoke for itself and nothing else was needed. 25 minutes later and we were elbows deeps in peanut oil fried chicken with secret spices - and it was more then worth the wait. So sorry Alison and Mum, you may get a little slap when we get ...

... for a quiet night listening to music, updating the travel diary and reading about everything from Disneyland ride accidents to haunted plantation homes in Mississippi. I have this weird mix of music running on repeat through my head – a combination of Elvis’ ‘It’s All Right, Mama’, Johnny Cash’s ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ and the Carter Sisters’ ‘Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord’). I’ve blurred them all into one ...
