Today we drove to Cades Cove in Smoky Mountain National Park. Because it was through the mountains, the road was slow but picturesque. We stopped at a picnic area for lunch, then continued on towards the Cades Cove loop. Part way along the loop, we hiked to the Abrams Falls. About a 5 m hike ...

Today we drove through the center of the park. We did a short trail walk in the afternoon and then headed to Clingman's dome (6643ft high) for sunset - around 5:30. We were all tired so headed home for an early night.

The following day was sunny and cool, perfect picnic weather. The guys wanted to show us their favourite part ...

... So we went back to the welcome center where we were escorted through large doors marked "private" into an inviting den decorated with overstuffed leather chairs and glass cases of Jack Daniels memorabilia and items sent from JD admirers. We were told that "Goose" would be right with us. Goose was a larger version of Ron and walked with a cane. He had been with JD for 38 years as a tester and ambassador to the public. I felt ...
