Thanksgiving in Germany, and many random things

Hi, remember us? Nothing bad happened to us, we've just had a real tough time finding the motivation to sit down and write. As you will see by the constant flip-flopping of writer in this t-pod, both Julie and I have been BIG procrastinators. We alternated writing this t-pod so much that I don't think either one of us has any clue what is says. We hope it makes a little sense and we hope you enjoy it. I am the only one in my group in the office this week so it should be wonderful! Finally, I ...

Day 2 - Frankfurt Germany

Accommodation: Frankfurt Hilton Weather: 13 C overcast Landed at the Frankfurt Airport, saw at least 12- 15 cranes up looks like they are building a new airport terminal. As we walked toward baggage claim you can see that it is a very big and busy airport - lots of shops, cafe. Strange to have no form to fill out before, just get up to custom, he scanned our passports, ask how long and why we are in Frankfurt, then off we go to get our luggage. Getting out of the baggage area was even simpler...

Day 3 - Frankfurt Germany

Hotel : Frankfurt Hilton Weather 16°C shower Woke up a few times thru the night. Finally got up at 7:30 am, checked the hotel menu price..wow an American style breakfast will set you back €30 (Can $48.00). No thanks, off to the Zeil again. Stopped at an Italian deli for a sandwich with cappuccino €14.80 . Most places do not have seating, a few bar high tables or benches outside to eat. Standing is common or eat on the run. What a different from Japan where it would consider rude to ...

Day 4 - Frankfurt Germany

Hotel : Frankfurt Hilton Weather: Sunny cool 8°C Again we woke up around 3 am trying to get back to sleep wasn't easy. Eventually went back to sleep got up around 7:30 am off to downtown. We stopped at a café to have sandwiches with pretzel like bread and coffee. Pass by the Opera house and still looking for the Main Tower. Got turn around a bit finally found the Main Tower. €8 for admission. Up 55 floors 191 m to the observation platform. Very much like Rockefeller center. Sunny but col...

Hoffenheim and continued...

This morning, we were awakened at 6 AM by the town alarm clock. We knew that the Schlosshotel Michelfeld was right next door to the church with the very tall steeple and big bell, but we didn't fully think through the implications of this. The bells started ringing at 6 AM. I expected them to stop at 6, then at 7, then at least at 24, but they kept right on ringing until every living creature within at least a 1 mile radius was awake. This must be the town's alarm clock, since we atarted seei...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hilton Frankfurt

Rough start...

from poojones
Stayed at the Hilton in Sept. and it was beautiful! We had just arrived from Toronto and the airline had lost our luggage. The staff was friendly and understanding to our needs. The rooms were clean & spacious and the bathroom was gorgeous. Wouldn't you know it, the Hilton had the best buffet breakfast spread I've seen in a long time. It was a very short walk to all the tourist areas. Highly recommeded!

Good as ever

from HHChris
Third stay at the Hilton in Frankfurt this year and still happy with friendliness of the staff, services and rooms (excellent equipped and maintained). Only the price-performance-ratio is a little bit below average since I believe that the already above average pricing should allow free fitness-center access (not only to the pool) and lower prices for food. Great location for the business-traveller (all major banks etc. in a walking distance) and tourists (opera, shopping-area); easy to reach with public transportation.

Excellent service at the Frankfurt Hilton

from usa30
This is a great hotel in a city with few great hotels. Located within walking distance of the major shopping and financial districts as well as lots of interesting restaurants. There is even a seven screen multiplex cinema showing films in their original languages just down the street. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. The views on the park side of the hotel are recommended - like being in the countryside. The California restaurant has an interesting menu, is open throughout the day and also features excellent service, and a nice alternative to the hearty and basic fare that is more traditionally German. Only complaint is the lack of any English language TV apart from CNN.

An excellent stay for visiting the christmas market

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you are going to do some christmas shopping or visit the christmas market in Frankfurt, the Hilton is the place to stay. My husband and I just recently returned from a long weekend there (10-12/12/04) and found the hotel to be within walking distance to all of the shops and market. The Hilton itself was as we expected: polite and friendly staff, good breakfast buffet and clean, comfortable rooms. We definitely plan on going back and will staying there again.

Very stylish

from FromLongIslandNY
I booked at the hotel based on the reviews here. Lived up to expectations. Seems very new, staff was very helpful. The hotel has wireless internet access at reasonable rates ($5 for 30 minutes).

Best of the Best

I travel a lot for work, both in the US and in Europe. This hotel is absolutely wonderful. Without exception, the staff is the most helpful and professional I have ever encountered. On the rare occasion that I had a problem, the response was immediate and received full attention until resolved.

By far the best I've ever stayed at.

Nice Hotel... About what you would expect...

from A TripAdvisor Member
Spent a weekend at the Hilton in Frankfurt at the end of February, 2004. It is exactly what you would expect from a cookie cutter 5 star business hotel. OK, so it may lack atmosphere but hey, this is Frankfurt... the whole city has about as much culture as a rock from Mars. If I had to be critical, there is some room for improvement...

the Hotel got my reservation mixed up with the other person I was travelling with (who made the booking). and the room had a couple of dirty glasses and a half-eaten apple in the otherwise spotless room.

Ask for a corner room and a high floor for nice views and wrap-around windows. This is a much nicer hotel than the Arabella Sheraton and I would definitely stay here again.

Simply great

I stayed at the Hilton Frankfurt for a conference. Perfect rooms, excellent front desk service. Big wonderful pool. Recommend any time again.

Not your standard hilton

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is probably Hilton's best operation in Germany and surely among the best and the newest in the whole Hilton family.

Dramatic glass-enclosed atrium lobby brings in much light and adds to the parkside setting of the hotel. Health club is world class with a huge indoor swimming pool.

Located within easy walking distance to main shopping and the stock exchange. However, take a cab to get to the trade fair grounds or the the main railway station (each about 10 minutes by car). Add another 10 minutes and you are right at the airport.

If you want to stay with a major international chain, this hotel based on its location and its facilities is a good choice for business travellers (incl. of a complete and professional business center) but also very good for families visiting Frankfurt, since the Marriott, the Intercontinental, the Meridien are either to remote (Marriott - across the fair grounds) or in not so polished areas (railway station).

A close competitor to the Hilton is the ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel offering a similar good location (right at the shopping area) with a more traditional elegance.
