    ... is difficult, but not impossible. We rode back over the railway tracks to a fancy victorian style house on a hill that we had spied yesterday. It was the Shelton McMurphy Johnson House, and for $6 we took a tour of its beautifully preserved rooms and furniture. Three generations across two different families lived here, and it was like reading a forgotten classic learning about their lives and adventures.     Ready to Go

    As a last step, I brought the plane in for an annual inspection at Avian Aeronautics at KPWT. I fixed and replaced some things I probably would have left alone if it weren’t for the trip I had planned, like installing a new a battery, replacing an old vacuum pump, and doing the brakes.

    With equipment and the critical Antarctica permit in place, I was ready to begin my trip.

    ... grazing! So we got to the RV park, which is awesome and even delivers the paper to your site mon-sat, then we went out for dinner. At this point we were starving! There are a couple of breweries in town, so we picked the closest one, Hop Valley, and once again, had awesome food! And their seasonal beer was a honey flavored ale! After dinner we stopped to feed the cows across the street from the RV park, but they don't like bread! Oh well, we tried!

    Okay, here we go. Looking back, our flight to New Zealand in 2000 was a direct route from SFO to Auckland. But it is SFO after all, and because bad weather, our flight out of Eugene was delayed. So we missed the Auckland flight, ended up spending the night in a ratty airport hotel near SFO, dining at "Champions" hotel lounge (where the staff wore referee uniforms), jumped on the next day's flight, ...
