    ... the Park took most of the day, so we decided to have dinner at the nearby lodge. The lodge itself was not fancy, but the food and service were good. We spent the evening reading and using our computers; our cell booster has been invaluable in accessing our Verizon 3G and creating a hotspot, even when we are in what feels like the middle of nowhere. "Wilderness" is no longer what it used to be!

Doughnut and coffee in hand, I sat down at a table with a former Navy corpsman who had served with the Marines in Vietnam. He and his wife were from Seattle and on their way home.     ... 8230;And I helped build that missile defense system, albeit a small part, during 1963 when I worked for the summer for Morrison Knudsen Construction Company building the Minuteman Missile silos in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.     ... of the storm the night before grew pale, until it vanished into the silvery blue of morning. Shortly after, inconspicuous rays of primrose light gave way to golden bars, where the dawn gilded out across the land. Then came beams of light flashing over the wilderness, tearing the coat off the mist, until the hills were draped in a magnificent blush and it became day.

    ... back up plans, 1960 computers, etc. Highly recommend this tour to anyone with any interest in history. Pretty sobering stuff.

    Drove a short ways to WALL, SD & checked into America's Best Inn. Huge room with big TV on wall, very nice. Dinner was less-than-nice at Badlands Saloon & Grille. Mediocre food in big, dark bar... can't believe it was #1 place to eat (on Tripadvisor) in Wall.
