We relented and visited Carlisle Castle on our way here to Windermere. It was another castle after all but with a slight difference in that it was beseiged by northern neighbours frequently. It was also a good place for morning tea before we headed out towards the western coast. We followed an AA car tour and thoroughly enjoyed Skinburness and the view to Dumfries and Galloway over very calm waters. We meandered down the coast calling in ...

... at 10.01. The car park was now buzzing. Using our National Trust passes we entered these beautiful gardens. The cost of entry is free to NT members but would have cost £11.55 each. These gardens are fantastic and a must if you are in this area. Annie said they were the best gardens she's ever seen (we've been there before), but she later said they were one of the best. Craig worked with Greg at Coomera Police Station and this is his and his partner, Margs, first BIG motorbike adventure. We rode with Craig and Marg to Canberra last September for the Police Wall to Wall ride but this is their first time overseas on their bike. What a great first time adventure - a week on the Isle of Man for the TT! We are very excited about meeting up with them ...

... to shine for us, and on our way back to our room we headed up the hill at the end of our street to get yet another amazing view of the lake. We had only time for a short rest before dinner - the Angel Inn for a pub meal to finish our visit to the Lake District. Exhausted we headed back up the hill (again) having done about 19 km for the day. With this blog finished I should sleep well ...

    The Lake District

A travel blog entry by theriggs on Jun 03, 2015

We got an early start (for us) and headed towards the Lake District. With only 45 minutes to get here, we had plenty of time to explore the area before heading to our accommodation at the Westbourne B&B at Windermere (a recommended accommodation by the Morecombe Tourist Information Centre). Arriving at Windermere we headed straight to the Tourist Information Centre, where we were given some information about walks in the area and gardens we could visit. We ...
