... morning. On the way down we stopped at a really lovely and historic fishing village called Beer. This village formed part of the defence in they Napoleonic war and also had a radar base set up there during the Second World War to help with the air defence. The sheltered also protected the fishing fleets from storms. It had the typical white cliffs, round stoney beach and this ever present candy stripped deck chairs for hire at 80p a half day. ... you have to have a job. A few of the cottages are holiday places. We were really lucky with the rain, it started as we were on our way back home.The road is so steep you can't take a car down it so the residents used sledges to load things on and drag down to their cottages, donkeys were also used to carry goods & people.

Packed up and left Ash Hotel at 9o'c. Lovely sunny day and all quiet in Exmouth. The Exe Estuary trail was mostly off-road and great views to the other side.
