Thanksgiving at Breck

10,000 feet, indoor living, and ESPN!

... ghostly after labor day weekend. Nic and I would like to throw a huge THANK YOU! out to Trish and Moe who have lent us their condo for a few days. We are very much enjoying it. It's a bit more roomier than the van, and has ESPN which has made Nic a very happy man.

We don't want to get used to being indoors, so we're pretty sure that we are going to leave this life of ...

First Full Day! Mt. Evans

... really makes me wonder what it was like back in the day, AND to appreciate what I have and where I live now! We drove a few more miles back to the highway and went to Central City and Black Hawk, which are two old mining towns that have recently been converted into little gambling towns. Central City was definitely more old school…more original buildings and things like that. I could definitely visualize what it must have looked like back in the 1800s ...

... this point that I informed Deb if she didn’t wait for me to rest I was going to stab her in the Achilles tendon with my trekking pole. Of course we made it and basked in our accomplishment of summiting what is one of Mother Nature’s finest works. So we start our decent and make our way to the truck, of course its one long mother of a hike down. Going down is sometimes harder than the ascent because different muscles are being used and your toes have a ...

BOOK IT! The Vail Pass

... br>down we passed lakes, waterfalls and had the most gorgeous scenery of snow-capped mountains. The first 10 miles were on a paved path where there was no motor vehicle traffic. The last 8 were a combination of road & the Gore Creek Path. If you do not have a free shuttle or driver to the top you can set up a tour with Charter Sports for $45.

BOOK IT! A Delightful Dining Experience

... that wetted my palatte, however the rest of the group were salivating at the selection of seafood. My options came down to either a Cobb Salad or an Asian Chicken Salad. I was leaning towards the Cobb, mainly due to my relatively new obsession with Avocados, however my husband Curt convinced me to do the Asian. It was good...but I seriously think I would have enjoyed the avacados more!

Spring Skiing and Lots of Snow

This year we skied for two weeks and both spring skiing and some good snow. We skied Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, and Arapahoe Basin. One day Peter and Ron took the day off and went fly fishing with a guide in Silverthorne. It was cold and they caught one fish but they still had a good time. Mike and Laurie joined us for a couple of days which was great!

Still rolling, or actually not much just pedalling

... will pass my last bike shop until nearly the end of my trip. Vicki is currently working admirably on finding out how I get me and gear back from the border crossing, along with my bike box which is 150 miles north. It does not help that the border crossing is in the middle of a very desolate desert. Oh, two critters which I forgot to mention: humming birds (about 10cm from my face at the Mountain Lodge I said that I liked); and bluebirds, which look a bit like ...

... they can officially hire me, and while I'm there the nice ladies say, "So does this mean you don't want the Human Resources job?" Huh? "You speak Spanish, right?" Yeah... "It was a year-round front desk position." Breckenridge is such a huge corporation that you file one application in their computers and it is available for all to see, but no one ever told me that Human Resources was looking to hire me. So that's ...
