Hiked trail to Smith's Spring. 285N thru Carlsbad NM then 82W to Cloudcroft. Made our way to higher elevation (8400ft, 2560m above sea level) near a winter ski resort in the hope of some cool air and a better night's sleep. It worked a treat and the fresh mountain air was a welcome relief!
