... got nothing from us.
Not long after we started off the next morning we were lucky to spy a timber wolf by the edge of some farmland! Unfortunately we couldn’t stop as there was a semitrailer bearing down on us from behind but we were pretty excited to have seen it.
The landscape had changed again into a flatter region with shrubs and low forest and long straight roads. It was a hot day again so mid-morning we stopped at Charlie Lake, hoping for a swim ...
... s longest wooden fish ladder. Salmon use the fish ladder to bypass the dam on the Yukon River when returning to their spawning areas.
We had a scheduled tour on the fully refurbished SS Klondike sternwheeler and following that, we drove through downtown and went to the visitors center where we were shown a 15-minute film about the Yukon. Yukoners say that if you take a sip of the water, you will never leave.
When the bus dropped ...
... A few minutes ago, I ran into the couple that did the “mosquito dance” with us at Mezidian – Randy & Joanne. They were heading into town to see the sights. Hopefully, we’ll visit with them again before we leave.

What a pleasant experience; getting two good night’s sleep without the sound of mosquitoes buzzing in your ears. That’s not to ...
... were used to haul away the rock. The area offers hiking in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter. Float planes take you sightseeing and the campsite we had was right on the lake and just gorgeous. It is pouring when we arrive so I get the umbrella and drag Woody up the hill to the pay phone so he can talk to Tom on Father's Day. Lucky I had an old phone card with 38 minutes left on it. By the time I got ...

In some ways, this trip was a ride down memory lane. Many many moons ago when I was a wet behind the ears eager-to-experience-everything university kid working as a summer student for Newmont Mines, I spent nearly 6 months doing geological exploration all over British Columbia -- a lot of it by rough logging roads in the middle of nowhere and some of it via helicopter into some amazingly remote and ...
... from the top of Whistler Mtn over to the top of Blackcomb something like 4.4km span with a height of 436m above the ground . http://ww1.whistlerblackcomb.com/p2pg/ It was impressive but not for the faint of heart as the spans and elevation are huge. Of course the staff that keep just about every establishment open are from Aus. It was unique to hear an English/Cdn accent. [I know Michelle.....:)] We spent three days at Callaghan Valley skiing and watching the ...
Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada hcb... team is 3 and 2. We were lucky enough to get a two hour teaching session with a professional curling coach who coaches Pat Simmons from Saskatoon and a women's team from QC. He coached the Yukon/NWT team at the Briar last year as well. We spent most of our time working on our deliveries using video. Both of us learned a lot and gained confidence in our deliveries. I can actually hit the broom on my Inturns! We also will be helping out teaching ...
Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada hcb... Foxworthy in his "you know you are a Redneck when" spiel say that you are one if the directions to your place entail going down a gravel road you are a redneck.... The directions to this place are down the gravel road for 1km, ford the axle deep stream at the bottom of the hill, drive on the Trans Canada trail for 1km, turn right onto the old Dawson trail and go 4km on a single track dirt road. Originally, the cabin was used for an eco tourism/dog mushing operation ...
Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada hcb... We had to access the lake in a provincial campground. There were very few campers in the campground so getting to the lake posed no problem. We went to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. Sadly this was just an area where wild animals had been penned in and you paid to be driven around to see them, thus we moved on. Back in Whitehorse we went to the McBride Museum. In ...
