Alona Beach

... Anyway, we had a really good day, and spent the afternoon sunbathing again and then enjoying a BBQ.

We did a brief trip to the Tarsier sanctuary near Tagbiliran to see the world's smallest primate, who are so cute and so tiny they can fit in your hand. I had to fight the temptation to steal one and keep it in my pocket.

That's about it for Bohol, although we did also get some awesome haircuts for 1pound 25 each, not bad eh?

Feeling Alona in the Philippines

... thousands of fish of every shape, size and colour imaginable. As well as the multicoloured and electric blue reef fish there were shoals of thousands of circling Jack fish (similar to tuna fish). The coral was also absolutely stunning, we’ve been fortunate enough to snorkel in some incredible places, Baliscag Island rates as the best for the number of different types of fish.

Here are the photos.

Next stop Sugar beach, Sipalay.

Bohol - Nuts Huts

Bohol probably the most famous island in the Philipinnes, the image of the chocolate hills and tarsiers is on all guide books and we were really excited about this stage. Bohol itself is very small in size, and we managed to base ourselves in one place to see the main attractions. We had read about a hostel based by the river in the middle of nowhere surrounded by jungle. This eco friendly place was called 'Nuts ...

Loboc

Well, I made the stupidly early boat and spent the whole journey wondering where I was going to go on Bohol. My visa expires in a week and I want to get it extended, I needed some serious planing. In the end I decided to stay at Loboc and not go to the touristy beaches - although there is realy good diving in Panglao island I decided to bypass it to dive elsewhere. So at lunchtime I arived in Tacbiloran and got straight into a bike and whisked off to the bus station. Here I ...

... the nicest site on my opinion. Do not miss Sanctuary, the one in Panglao next to Alona Beach, here in the shallows you have excellent hard corals and soft all over, in one dive I was able to see 3 different kinds of pipe fish. sea snake. 6 hump head parrotfish , scorpion leaf fish, plus the usual tropicals and large school of jacks. Water temp is about 28 or 81 Fahrenheit vis anywhere between 50 and 100 feet, 17 to 33 meters. I did not care for Alona but the ...

Lo and Bohol!

... the islands and islets into their present formation today. Gary said that the whole island of Bohol was known to be underwater. In fact, the composition of the Chocolate Hills is of corals and not dirt. He said that at a certain era (precolonial, I suppose), the island of Bohol did not even exist. A lesson in Paradise

... LP books. This is really annoying, as without some kind of hint of how to get around or whatever, it makes it that much harder to get any information from the locals. Now let me explain how it works here...and for all of those thrill seekers who wish to start your trip in Zamboanga...here are some tips. Lesson 1...you must learn very very quickly how to ask the right question, to get the answer you are looking for. There is no point asking open ended questions ...
