... I sat where I could watch and play cards at the same time, I was too focused on the game to really notice. The little I did catch didn't look as entertaining as the production we saw in Whitehorse.
We returned to the campground around 9:45 p.m. It was sunny and warm and I joined Beverly for a game of Rummy-O and Head and Foot until about 12:30 a.m.
P.S. The men returned from their mining expedition as rich as they were when they left.
... on the Solstice. The view from the top is quite scenic. You can see the town, Bonanza Creek, and the Yukon River Valley.
Next we toured the Commissioner's Residence. This was the home of the local government executive appointed from Ottawa. It is a beautiful turn of the century mansion on Front Street facing the Yukon River. This home was built with electrical wiring. Dawson got electricity as early as Chicago.
In town we ...
... many of the
would-be miners met the end of their expeditions at that point. As
many of you know, I wrote one of my theses in college on the Yukon
River and find it a fascinating body of water, with many different
faces depending on where she is in her journey from Lake Bennett to
the Bering Sea.
Tonight
we saw the Frantic Follies, it is still as much fun as it was 8 years
ago.…the last time we saw it! This time one of our group ...
... 1930s (it was identified as his by his name carved into one of the logs). In the 50s the cabin was dismantled and divided. One-half was reconstructed on its current site in Dawson and the other half was reconstructed in Oakland, California. I had no idea who Robert Service was (poet of the Yukon) until we found part of one of his works painted on a wall across the street from Klondike Kate's ...

Dawson City, Yukon, Canada jstephensca... so big, and yet floated in a small man made pond that moved UP a mountain. There is a turnoff over a narrow bridge that is the start of the King Soloman Dome drive. It is a road that completes a loop up and around a very high mountain just East of Dawson City. It is a narrow, and sometimes rough road but well worth the effort and time. From the loop road I took a brief look down the road leading to the Eureka Gold Panning Adventures site. This ...
Dawson City, Yukon, Canada jstephensca... our RV - not that they would find anything. It took all of 30 seconds and we were through and in the Yukon one more time. Just to make us feel better, the road was paved. Well, for a little while. Overall we had 50% gravel roads on the last 60 miles to Dawson City. We stopped for lunch just a mile down from the border post at the highest point on the highway. The views were wonderful. However, I was too tired to cook anything so we just had chips and salsa ...
Dawson City, Yukon, Canada scoonpooh... what is ahead and we certainly are into insurance today with the purchase of the wheel brace etc (not required thank goodness, but happy to have the insurance taken out, we have a long way to go!) Settle in and plan to head to Skagway tomorrow another good run of around 8+ hours, so an early start planned.. Please note we most likely will not be in internet range for the next 3 days going on our prior experience in Skagway, Dont worry we are looking after ourselves!
Dawson City, Yukon, Canada popusa2008The parents of Jordan and Garrett Price visited Canada this Summer. They sent us this postcard from Dawson City, Yukon: Hi, Jordan and Garrett Price's Mom and Dad here! They're not with us - but here we are in Northern Canada, almost the same latitude as Fairbanks, Alaska. Very remote up here and -60° in the winter. Lots of interesting history of the goldrush here. Daylight is 21 hrs/day in Summer.
Dawson City, Yukon, Canada reds_adventure... Yikes!!!! That's FAST!!!! By way of comparison we did the same route two weeks ago in 9 days of paddling and perhaps 54h of effort on the water and the guide books suggest 14 days is a good time. We worked at the finish and we helped racers out of their boats after they'd finished. Some were in bad shape and had to be lifted. Others bounded out of their boats. One guy I helped, stood up in his Kayak, stepped up on the deck in front of his seat, and ...
