To come full circle, we four met up with Rick and Ardeth at the other Island Tiki bar and found them in full conversation with Scottish Billy, see earlier blog, who they had never met before but had done the whole 6 degrees of separation as neither party knew ...
Paul has played a few times at a local course called Oyster Creek but he has been itching to play some of the "nicer" courses nearby.
Two of these courses are Boca Royale and Riverwood. Both get excellent ratings and Riverwood is rated 15th in the entire state of Florida.
Riverwood is a Golf Digest 4 1/2 star course that is truly unique as a result of its design features, natural beauty and varying challenges. (so ...

certified as a "Blue Wave" beach by the Clean Beaches Council. Not sure exactly what this means but it was a different beach than many of the others in that it was more natural and certainly more rugged.
Heavy surf, lots of sandpipers and ring necked gulls. We plan to stop again and maybe try to find a shark tooth or two.

My favorite part of the tour was the miniature circus. it's beyond my comprehension as to how anyone can put together such a realistic display of how the circus looked in days gone bye. We all enjoyed the Ca'd'zan ("House of John") the location and beauty of the veranda was all too impressive. -Southside Deli - after walking around The Ringling for hours we were all pretty hungry. The NY Kosher, hot pastrami, slaw, yellow mustard, melted swiss and sweet pickles on rye, at the Southside Deli did not let me down. The mound of peppery pastrami laid perfectly below the creamy slaw and ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hibiscus Suites Inn Sarasota
Not walking to the beach
Wrongly advertises proximity to the beach. We researched and were also told over the phone that this hotel was 4-blocks and a 10-minute walk to Siesta Key Beach. Be advised, this hotel is not walking distance to any beach! Otherwise nice enough with good overall value for the area.
Very nice place
My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Hibiscus Suites Inn in Feb. 2006. We found the staff to be pleasant and the accommodations very nice; the furniture is comfortable and the rooms are spacious. The location is ideal for the area. The only drawback was the lack of cable TV (no PBS) but that's a minor issue. We didn't go down there (from NH) to watch television anyway, but would have liked to watch a favorite news program. We recommend the Hibiscus Suites to others--it's a very nice place and it's clear that the owners/managers are interested in doing a good job.
Excellent ... our "every year" new place to go
We loved the Hibiscus Suites Inn. The staff was amazingly friendly. The rooms and beds were awesome!
The location PERFECT, the pool beautiful. We used the grill and cooked in our room some to save money.
But we were able to go a few extra places because the hotel was so reasonably priced ... we even stayed an extra day.
We will stay at the Hibiscus Suites again and again!!
My wife and I stayed at Hibiscus Suites Inn April 2005 for six nights and we were more than thrilled when we got there. We were a little bit scared before because the price was so low and most places around their are a lot steeper but we were going on vacation on limited funds and just wanted a place that wasn't trashy so we could hit the beach every day. We got a lot more than that. The rooms are Very Clean and look exactly like the pictures on the website, the pool is a little decieveing because even though it is very nice and clean, it is right off the road, but it wasn;t a big deal because when you have one of the most beautiful beaches in the United States less than a mile away who needs the pool. I'm planning on returning there in 2007, I would go sooner but my wife is expecting a baby this year. If you are looking for a steal, nice service, and great location, look no further. I only have one minor qualm about it, and it wasn't because of the room. The Public Laundry Room is kind of eerie, and dark, and they only had when I was their 2 machines. But that is very minor, and we used the Laundromat about 2 minutes down the road. Great for Couples!
What a Bargain!
The Hibiscus Suites is the best place I've stayed in Florida in quite some time. The rooms are brand new, spacious and bright, with a convenient kitchenettes. Everything was exceptionally clean! The living area was well appointed with brand new leather furniture and the feather beds in the bedroom were a pleasant surprise. This hotel has features that you would expect to find in a much pricer setting. We really enjoyed our stay and regretted we couldn't stay longer!
We have been vacationing to Siesta Key for 5 years now, and we have never stayed in Hotel as nice as the Hibiscus Suites Inn! The suites are beautiful, comfortable, and very quiet. Very clean, brand new furniture and appliances, and the featherstuffed comforters on the beds are to die for!! It is a brilliant location... four blocks from the beaches, restaurants & bars, family activities, aquariums and a whole lot more. Just half of a mile up the street we rented a boat for a half day and had so much fun, and when we came back there was a great restaurant right next door where we had a excellent meal. I highly recommend staying at the Hibiscus Suites Inn if you want to experience a great time. Also, thier staff were great! Wonderful, polite housekeepers and front desk personel. Thanks Guys! We will see you next year!
Excellent accomodations, close to everything. We love this place and will definitely stay here again. We though the amenities were great! Great furniture, very comfortable, peaceful, a great way to see Siesta Key. Thank You Hibiscus Suites Inn, you are wonderful!
My husband I stayed there in March 2005. The expensive season for Florida! Every day there were work trucks all over the parking lot, and even for a few days a cherry picker was there so new roof tiles could be out on. No pool just sit and look at the trucks and hope you have a parking space. Then the fun starts our reservations were botched we were told we" may" have to switch room in the middle of our vacation, thier mistake! We were told to put our luggage in the office for a few hours while the rooms were cleaned and we could switch rooms for the last night we were there the people next door were booked to have the room we were in. The suites were the same yet them wanted us use our vacation time time to move. We opted to leave early , very unfriendly office people.
Although we did not stay at Hibiscus Suites Inn (see below for explaination) I would highly recommend staying away from this hotel. My mother, sister and I had made reservations and tried to stay there in March. When we arrived the parking lot was full of construction machinery, the pool was closed with a "danger" sign posted on it, and the people at the desk were rude and unhelpful. We had made two reservations, one by phone and one through the internet - with two separate confirmation numbers. We cancelled the internet one, but the hotel had cancelled both, even though they sent us a letter confirming the phone reservation. When we arrived at the hotel we found out we didn't have a room. In the process of trying to figure out what to do, one of the employees started shouting at us, and physically pushed my sister out the door. We went to a nearby business (CB's Saltwater Outfitters) where an employee there was very helpful and assisted us in finding another hotel room. We sent a letter to various local entities (i.e. the Chamber of Commerce) and they are following up on it. We were told that this was not the only complaint against this hotel. I cannot comment on the rooms since we didn't get to see them. I LOVE the Sarasota/Siesta Key area (as does my whole family), so please note that this one horrible experience with one hotel should not reflect on the area itself. The area is beautiful and everyone else we have met there has been very friendly.
