Nature madness!

Well its only been two days since my last entry but it feels like a million things have happened! The Monkey River tour was so amazing, it totally suprised me. I guess thats the benefit of having low expectations haha. Vanessa and I were the only two tourists who booked with the company that day, so we got the entire tour and guides to ourselves which was awesome. It started with a boat drive through mangroves, then we went to Monkey Village and picked up our guide, a 40-50 yr old native to t...

Entering the Cave of the Stone Sepulchre

Well I was inspired by Lara Croft to do the ATM trip (Actun Tunichil Muknal or Cave of the Stone Sepulchre) in San Ignacio. Yesterday we were due to go but it was cancelled as the ranger said that the water was too high in the cave. So after waking up for the 830 start, we walked up the hill to Cahalpech. This is the site for very old Mayan ruins. It also used to be the Place of Ticks. Thankfully, they no longer reside there. Afterwards, we went to the butterfly farm at Trek Stop. So, this mo...

Cave-Tubing = Hoehlen Schlaeucheln??

Our Vacation In Ruins!

So After the Hopkins Village visit we just hung around Placencia and had a fairly uneventful day. On the 26th we went on the Monkey River Tour. It started out with nice weather. We stopped in the village, if you can even call it that, there are not more than a handful of houses, where we ordered our lunch. The trip up the river was filled with beautiful birds and plants. We stopped to walk through the jungle and this is where it became interesting. There were HUGE bamboo plants, very cool tre...

Actun Tunich Muknal!

... we had to climb a pretty tall ladder. This was the end of the cave, and here we found the remains of a woman in perfect condition. You could see the exact position of the way she died and every single bone from her fingers to her toes were there. It was a pretty gut wrenching sight because you could almost see the human those bones once formed.

We came back to the outside world in the same manner that we entered the Maya underworld. As we were coming back out we ...

Monkeys and Mayans

... sped up versions of Madonna songs and inexcusable cheese boomed through our room (I take it back about the china town hotel being the loudest ever!). Mayan ruins the next day were good, but the walk was hot and steep, definitely one for the early morning!

San Ignacio (Cayo)

... hung out at the lodge, relaxing and checking out all the unusual animals. we talked about maybe renting a car for the second day and sharing the cost with another guest who was due to come in... but in the end one of the owners said if we paid for gas then he could take us to see some of the sights in Mountain Pine Ridge National Park on Sunday. so Sunday (2nd day) started with a tube ride down the river about a 1 hour long trip with 2 small rapid areas, and ...

More Mayan Ruins in the jungle of Belize!

... a claustrophobic like me was not the best.... Basically in Belize there is one main road from north to south and one from east to west and that's it, every 90 minutes ONE chicken bus rattles along these highways serving the entire country waiting on the side of the road for a lift so you can imagine the outcome. Thankfully I managed to eventually sit near the front but stop after stop more and more families were waiting and not only was the bus chocker, but ...

I WILL STAND FOR CHRIST!

... the essence of man but not forgetting what was before current essence. As the country of Belize continues to recover from the devastation of the floods , food prices our on the rise and many of the grocery store shelves are empty either because lack of food or previous lack and slow recovering. Which really brings to focus what life is all about. We currently have a team here from the Missions group STEM which takes willing ...

Pressing On for the Work which i Have been Called

... see my kids make a difference for Christ I know what awaits me for eternity is far better. My strength may wane but I take comfort in the fact that I can collapse in the old school carpenter arms of my Father Jesus Christ. I hope and pray that all of you will be courageous on your battlefields and may preserve for the work which Christ has God you. Let me assure sure my work in Belize is no ...
