... the small harbor. While the British occupied the island, they passed on their tradition of distilling juniper berries and to this day, Menorcan gin is prized.

After checking out the town square and walking around for a bit, we found a nice bar to get drinks in and tried the Menorcan gin. We returned to the boat for dinner and then hit the town again after dinner for more drinks and a place to hang out, people watch and relax.
Ciutadella, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourneyFar de Favaritx is on the very northeast tip of the Menorca. There is a light house out on the very tip of cape and from the landscape it’s obvious that this area gets a lot of wind, heavy surf and storms.

We didn’t stop here or go ashore, but the weather was calm enough to take the helicopter up and get a scenic view of this part of the island. With the arid Mediterranean climate, the cliffs and the rocky coastline, it reminded me of parts of the California coast ...
Far de Favaritx, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourney... be fewer dishes to choose from, nothing served from the kitchen and all the food will be low carb and low fat. Also, since the crew already knows what we prefer to eat at breakfast—only those foods are made and put out.

While guests are aboard, things are completely different. There will always be a lot of fresh fruit all cut up and arranged nicely. There will always be a selection of breads and a selection of pastries, and there will always be the ...
Maó, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourney... only outside allowed
So everything biased towards them

Shopping lots of tat though lots of cheap restaurants selling food aimed at Germans (sausages, Wurst, et al) some good speciality restaurants, Chinese, Vietnamese, and a few English Pub bars serving English food.

The shops though were surprising that once they knew you were English they discounted lots of stuff from trinkets to scuba and fishing gear
Arenal d'en Castell, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands madcaravannerWe´ve spent the week excavating a trench! Even with an exclamation point it doesn´t sound too exciting. We dug down over a meter into rocky soil. After breaking up the soil, we had to ¨clean¨ it, which meant sifting through it for anything of importance. It seems like my main job was levering up and tossing out these stones that had been thrown in the trench when the camp was abandoned. We (ok, not me so much ...
Ciudadela, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands celliott76... We explored the town the next morning and had a good coffee at a little cafe overlooking the harbour. Back to the boat and cast off for a short sail around the Island to another little bay where we would stay for another night before jumping across to Mallorca (our favourite Island). The bay was deserted and we tucked into a cove and again watched thunderstorms all around us.
Fornells, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands bellavita... currently excavating a defensive ditch. This mainly consists of digging it out ourselves while keeping an eye out for pottery shards. Apparently, the locals filled the ditch with dirt and trash when the Romans military left. Today, I learned how to use a pick axe. The normal image of archaeologists carefully brushing off intricate stone carvings does not apply to our current work ...
Ciudadela, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands celliott76... en lagere gelegen oorden.

Menorca, Spain, Spain garcia16They are starting to run together, these seaside Mediterranean towns. Narrow cobblestone streets, stairs, & stone buildings. Mahon is no exception. There is something a little sad about a seaside town in the winter. I'm sure it is completely packed in ...
