... few days to have a wash as they dont have any shower facilities in their houses. I was going to go but apparently it is really hot and I was a bit worried about fainting as I still dont feel 100% after the acident. So Ian went off with Mohammad on his own and I hung around reading and trying to get our washing dry which was hanging on the line on the roof terrace. Ian got back smoking a morrocan cigarette and acting now like a true ...
Marrakech, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Morocco traceybelleAh Essaouira - a most idyllic seaside town along the Atlantic coast, about 3 hrs. southwest of Marrakech, and a fine spot to wind down after my many adventures across Morocco. (it's also a prime example of the Moroccans apparent fetish for vowels) ;)

Such a lovely time I've had here - more than 3 days to meander along the waterfront with nothing more pressing to do than sample freshly squeezed O.J. from a seaside ...
Essaouira, Morocco globalgirl... behind the fish stalls – where your freshly bought seafood is placed on a bbq and a few minutes later its in front of you on the table ready to eat.

Anyone who knows me well, will know that I don’t eat any kind of fish or seafood (except fish fingers – which don’t really count as fish, lets face it) – its been the longest psychological battle in my mind over food and I’ve no idea where it came from, I just have never been able to ...
Essaouira, Morocco travelmonster... workshop where local masters make different and and extraordinary things using the tree Thuja. Diiferent small souvenirs, tables, boxes, cupboards, hangers, toys... All that can be found here, such beauty things...

Then we had some free time to walk around the city and shops by ourselves, and then we met again to go to Agadir again.

While on the road, we saw local trees Argan ...

Essaouira, Morocco delkroemer... The road to Essaouira is partly along the coast where some huge waves attract surfers, but at 17 degrees water temperature at this time of the year, it appears somewhat pale compared to Hawaii. So I guess they come here if Daddy's cheque didn't arrive in time for the flight to Honolulu. Essaouira is a town with a great atmosphere. It is right next to the coast, a walled city that looks unchanged ...
Essaouira, Morocco sabaidii... neighbors. We were invited to a familys house and watched the whole thing, then shared lunch and tea with a different family later. I've heard the call to prayer and wished that I had a head scarf since I don't have my comb or hair dryer (Alicia, I know you can relate). The jallabas are varied and colorful and can definitely make a fashion statement. I was ...
Essaouira, Morocco kdidricksen... restaurant with rooftop views of the main square (Place Moulay Hassan) and the seascape. I couldn't help but notice the table beside me and the young Moroccan tour leader dining with his tour group of rather dense Australians who felt the need to educate him about Australia as they gradually became drunker. Almost every sentence of theirs began, "In Sydney.......:" or "In Australia.................." I don't quite understand why people who are ...
Essaouira, Morocco modernnomad67... hard earth floor, leaving me watching Al Jazeera and sharing a meal with this nomadic family and our guides. Watching the channel here and 2 reels burn in my mind - 1 of a US tank burning in a place where it probably wasn't sent an invitation to, and 1 of a meeting somewhere in the Arab world with literally 100's of ministers of some sort greeting each other in the traditional way of 4 kisses on the cheeks. If everyone gets their introductions, then there wont't be much time ...
Essaouira, Morocco barneyandpier... to show us what she was preparing. Last night we went to a production of Don Quixote, all in French so it was a bit hard to follow. The man sitting next to us was a writer and talked to us, in French, about French literature and philosophy. The chicken was not quite to my taste, but the harira soup was the best we've ever had. The little restaurant had satellite TV so we saw BBC World for the first time in Morocco. Raymond's Travel Page
