Recouperated, Vaccinated, Inspirated

... insomnia and slight crazyness. But a great excuse to bite the people around you:) For some reason there was a shortage of Rabies vaccinations in Germany so I had to order them from France at 60 euros an injection (3 injections 180euros!!!). All up the vaccinations are costing close to 500Euros. But I feel better with the knowledge that if our world is suddenly overun by plague and desease I am the man whos gonna survive! Africa Im coming!

Day 11 - Twee villages and fluorescent dog collars

Picture this. It is 6am, the sun just rising. You are in a forest, full of tall upright birches and oaks, the canopy way overhead, and all the floor covered in a dense green lush matting. Now the sun comes through the trees, at a shallow angle, making the shadows stretch out for seemingly miles. The slight amount of dew on the floor glistens in the light, like a thousand tiny LED lights, and the moisture starts to heat up and evaporate, so there is a fine white mist rising. Add to all ...

... beautiful and there are few cars as the trip unfolds along corn and grain fields, hundreds of horses, cows, pigs, and sheep. Westerbork Camp is out in the middle of nowhere. It is no wonder that the Jews were taken there. They were completely isolated. The museum is seperate from the compound itself. There are ripped up train tracks set up as a memorial, several partial walls left from the blockhouses where prisoners were kept, and a few ominous ...

Heidepark

Day 3 - Uelzen

This will be a short(ish) one, but today's ride most certainly wasn't. Leaving Schwerin just as the first drops of rain started to fall (I hope this pattern doesn't keep repeating itself..), I was met by a detour. And this time it wasn't even my doing. The B106 south of Schwerin was closed due to construction and I had to go around to the B321, in all 7 kms of rain I could have done without. Not the one to give up, I pushed forward, my ...

Hamburg - Second stop on Germany Tour

... before. We then drove to the Elbe tunnel (tunnel that runs under the Elbe river) and we took the car elevator down into the tunnel - it's amazing to think that this was built in the early 1900s (1912) and is 80 ft below the surface and still works perfectly today. There was a plan to bomb it during the war, but the Germans knew that it would be important in the future and so they opened up the water valves and flooded it so it wouldn't be bombed... We then ...

Lueneburg - First stop on Germany Tour

... adults off at a swanky hotel and we (Oliver, Erin, Kajal, Brett, Anthony, and I) were off to the cheaper place (which was pretty nice too)! We checked in and then decided to walk around in the rain, directly to a pub, to enjoy our first beer in Lueneberg. It was a bank holiday, so all the shops were closed - all we could do was window shop. There was one crazy store - the "US Store" where the ...

Landed in Hamburg, Germany!

I landed in Hamburg. I thought I was going to be on my own getting to Lueneburg, but Soeren met me outside the gate. Then we met up with Tyler and took the train to Lueneburg. Ingrid met me at the train station in Lüneburg. She showed me around town and took me to their ...

last class day in Lueneburg

Our last day of class ended with an exam on Ingebord Bachmann's "The Barking." After everyone finished the exam, the vice president of the University of Lueneburg spoke to us about the economic and political situation of Germany from post World War II to the present. He made Germany's complex situation very easy to understand and helped clarify some of the common ...
