... next day and caught a cab back in to Chania. We then caught the bus back to Heraklion (or Iraklio) and the fun of finding somewhere to stay for our second night on Crete began.

P!ssing down with rain, no cagoules, no money, hungry, nowhere to stay - it was pretty rubbish. Crete is a pretty ****** place as well. Lots of graffiti around and dog poo on the footpaths. But, we managed to get another credit card working and then found an internet cafe ...
Crete, Greece markandnoma2009Yesterday we got up at 5am in order to catch our plane from Santorini. Most of our group was on the same plane , so we said our sleepy good byes. We flew on Aegean Air which has nice new planes. We went to Athens and then basically retraced the short flight by flying to Crete. We staggered into hotel Lato at 10am where we received a special bonus upgrade to the 5th floor executive suite. 2 rooms on the 5th floor with an ...
Heraklion, Crete, Greece nsadventures... was magic but the cocktails were dreadful. Kevin’s martini had ouzo in it but the barman refused to do another. Chris’ margharita seemed to be alcohol free and Milly’s Manhattan didn’t taste very good. So we moved to Axos for more drinks – this time excellent, and then to our favourite eating place, Yannis, for dinner. The drinks and food there were superb too and they gave us free cheese pies and raki (as if we needed more booze). Nice.

Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... flights) Where on earth would we find the patience to wait for 5 hours?? For comfort we recaived a £4.- voucher which we later spend on some lovely Marks & Spencer's salads & chocolate mouse =p. Although feeling rather stiff sitting on the wooden bench the time went quite fast while we where reading. (me Portraits by Cynthia Freeman, Eve 'Closer') and doing ...
Heraklion, Crete, Greece belphoebeWent out to dinner last night. Nicky & Graham had given us a lovely card which us a great trip and £40! for us to spend so that we at least are able to go to dinner once - so that's what we did. We walked down to town. It's a pretty place build around teh bay with here and there a fisher's boat resting in the sea. Seeing all the restaurants we were afraid (well that's not really the right word but you know what I mean) of being hassled by every restaurand emplyee ...
Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... on it! Six pack mineral water and some fruit juice + two ice creams all for a wapping 26 Euros! There goes our budget! Now wlaking back up, Eve and I had some serious breathing difficulties! At least Eve had enough breath to talk sometimes :p - I was struggling even when simply nodding yes or no *g* We sat down in the shade for a wel needed rest before walking up a small steep path that would take us to ...
Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... we stood, the two of us, backpacks at our feet thinking what are we doing here?! Crossing the road and going down the path where we find a sign to our villa '500 m'. Now it might just be me but these Greek meters are sure longer than ours! We walked, and walked, and in the end climbed - although climbing? Seriously struggling to get up the hill in the burning sun with ...
Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... laughs* -- We asked a nice guy at a tourist info/hotel reservation and he advised us to wait until 9 and take the bus into town and walk around until we found a hotel. Sounded like a plan. We took the 7:35 bus into Athens proper (the airport is a little ways out) and I slept the whole way. When the bus dropped us off at Syntagma, I had to give myself a crash course in navigating the city, which led us to backtrack a few times, but no major trouble. A stray dog adopted us and ...
