From our itinerary: ELEUSIS - THEBES - TROPHONIOS - DELPHI "After breakfast, we board our motorcoach, following the route of the Sacred Way that initiates walked to partake of the death/rebirth Mysteries of Demeter and Persephone. There at the site of Eleusis, we will visit the Kallichron Well where Demeter mourned the loss of her daughter and sacred dances performed in her honor; the Cave of Hades where legend has the descent of Persephone to the Underworld, the great Hall of the Telesterion...
Delphi, Greece donnaanddennisThis was the day we began our journey into ancient Olympics. It was the same year we were going to watch the Beijing Olympics. We were ahead of time. We were ahead of our time. Travelling back to the times when cheaters were punished and sportsmen probably fitter and stronger than our current sportsmen. Our Greek guide did a great job in explaining to us the how the athletic festival was conducted. She made the guys demonstrate it, in fact! They did an Olympic run - the real thing at the rea...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece ikanbilis Our last town in Greece was where all the ancients went first prior to setting out on a great adventure. Set high in the mountains with a view of the distant sea with only 2 streets and steep cliffs above and below,Delphi is a beautiful mountain town. It is easy to see how one seeks wisdom in a place like this. Odysseus, Alexander the Great and many others have all come here for direction. Now we are too.
The ancient site is well preserved and it does not require the imagination to transp...

Lunch at the Amalia Hotel in the new village of Delphi was tasty, and another good opportunity to begin some new friendships. With the political parades in Athens there were difficulties in getting all the tour group back to their hotels and we found ourselves dropped off at Syntagma Square after a circuitous ride through the city to drop off others ...
... admit. At that moment, two trail bikes whizz across an unseen track right in front of me. The first fine drops of rain feather my arm. That's it - the magic is well & truly broken... who needs to see some more old ruins anyway?! I decide to turn around & hope to get down before it starts in earnest.
On the way, I loop across to what I think is Mt Parnassus and do a little dance of ...
... Ruins of Temple of Apollo even more striking. The natural landscape alone is breathtaking: 8,000 years of recorded history inflates the impression manyfold. The things they assembled here, with their technology & transportation, just beggar belief!
A glass of chilled retsina to watch the precious sun go down prompts reflection on the many centuries of human (and otherwordly) strife and struggle in this magical land.
Have really arrived, at last!
... the beginning – some hours ago there was no answer at all. Everyone was out helping. The last 45 minutes we are told to wait, and wait.
Yianni asks a friend of ours to check on the house. He is driving there now to see and call us back. We are in agony. I hope to hear good news though!
We don't know much of what is happening, and my daughter and son keep ...
On our way from Bucharest to Zakynthos we spent a night in Delphi. Parnassos Hotel is right in the heart of Delphi, with its incredible tight streets full of tavernas, hotels and boutiques. The atmosphere in the evening is wonderfull, people go out in the streets, they go out to have dinner, everybody is dressed carefully, and local people are as friendly as they can be. Find a nice ...

We finally reached Delphi and spent a few hours there, we went through the museum first and listened to a tour guide for a while. It was really, really hot. I don't know why I chose to wear jeans. After looking around at the main sites everyone in our group continued up to another theater or something further past where we were, but my mom and I decided to go down to the Oracle because that's ...
... the site to take place, the entire village had to be moved down the mountain. Near this area you can also see the largest olive grove in Greece (it's huge, it goes on for miles), and a channel that brings water from this area to the Athens area. The channel is interesting because it's just like a little man made river with no top on it or anything. From Delphi we went to a village called Kalambaka to spend the night. It was a couple hours away. We stayed in a nice hotel; however ...
