Lazy day in Parma

... Then it was back to the churches, though some were closing for the afternoon by now, and a walk down the road to see the fountain Michael had discovered on his walkabout on the first evening. At night this is lit by colours, but it still looks good in sunlight. By now most places were closing (they do the afternoon siesta well in Italy!) so we decided on a long lunch ourselves. If one sits or stands in a specific place anywhere in the city, one can photograph a dog every 5 seconds!!! Tried and timed!





In a cafe they are lunching.... They help go shopping for make-up.... They go clothes shopping in Zara.... ...

... on artists with importance to Parma, as well as having a small archaeological section and a huge section on drawings and architectural drawings of importance to the area. Most of the paintings in this little gallery were by bodies not on Joys lists, although some of them have now been added to those lists. But, although being able to get close to the paintings here too, nothing seen here came quite as close in wow factor as that lovely little drawing ..... La Scapiliara.

... at night, so you really have to watch for them. Dogs are a different issue. About one person in three walking the streets of Parma has a dog with them, and these are highly strung pedigree breeds too. Many are the very small breeds, and in this cold weather most are covered with great little jackets. Joy photographed many of them, and plans to do a theme blog on the dogs of Parma. Hmm, have to wait and see if she is barking up the wrong tree with that ...

But I do wonder how this is going to work in the future... will the chidren of these immigrants consider themselves "Italians" and become part of the greater Italian family, or will they find themselves kind of lost in limbo... not really feeling they belong here--but not ...
