Kalymnos is known as the sponge diver's island. Kalymnian sponges are reputed to be the longest lasting, strongest natural sponges you can get. And this industry holds great significance for the island's history and the resilience of the island as a whole. While the sponge industry may be one that is slowly fading with less sponges to be found and the old fashioned skills needed to work the sponges being forgotten and not passed on, the people reflect the tough ...

... suitcases and two other bags loaded up. Every bump i thought I was going to fall off, wondering if an ED visit wouldn't be too bad with a bed in my lack of sleep-numb-aching body after last nights sickness At least then I could sleep in comfort. Anyways ,we were all put on a large boat with people from other tour groups, and our trip began. Upon arriving at the Nisyros we ...

Boarded a ferry today & headed off to Kos, Greece. Tomorrow will do a sailboat & swim thing. Can hardly wait Oct.18 We are boarding a tall sailing ship for a day of sailing & swimming. Our boat is not the newest or prettiest, but has the best reputation from locals. The day is perfect. There are two other similar ships leaving dock for the same cruise. They are jammed packed with people. We have only 10 people on our boat. There is plenty of room to lounge around, and ...

... weren't really in an ancient ruins mood so hustled through pretty quick and out the other side into an amazing food market. It was set up for tourists but there were so few people around that it didn't feel touristy at all. Everything looked amazing from the honey (they were famous for honey) oil, spices, nougat. Actually pretty gutted we weren't able to buy much to take since we still had to trip through Turkey and really limited bag space before we left ...
