... that so many people in Malaga were British, German, French, Polish - anything but Spanish! When we got off the plane and faced instant culture shock by the obvious language barrier and had to rely on Sam's flunecy in Spanish to get us to our hotel. My first thoughts: This is going to be a lot harder than I thought! But once we arrived at the hotel and walked down to the shore for dinner, I realized that everyone around me was speaking English and that all the signs were ...
... the bucket full of water. 7 minutes before the bell rang Scott asked, "where´s your costume?" First I laughed, but then realized that he was serious. Luckily I have the creativity of a first grader, I had make up in my purse, and 2 headbands in my backpack. 2 minutes before the bell rang Scott and I were dressed and ready to fight the crowds of students that were about pour out of the classrooms ...
Córdoba, Spain mathesonduo... We left the bodega and walked only about 10 minutes to the bridge to cross the Guadalquivir River. From there, the view was gorgeous - it looked like Disney World at night. About 10,000 white lights (as I am told) decorated the buildings on the other side of the river. As we got closer, the streets were lined with vendors selling fresh local fruit, homemade candies, and churros (the Spanish equivalent of chocolate-covered funnel cakes). Inside, it was ...
Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands dineymarie... statue of Jesus and all of the men in white robes with pointy purple hats. At first it is strange to see all of these people that resemble the KKK in the U.S. but of course this is such a different purpose. The people in the cloaks are all part of different brotherhoods that devote a lot of time, service and energy to the deeply rooted traditions of Easter in Sevilla. During ...
Seville, Spain clandybar... the tour groups. Alcazar de Los Reyes Cristianos - 4E I got back to town and hit the next stop, the Alcazar. It's free on Sunday. Hmm.. Not that impressive but the gardens are really pretty. As I walk the gardens, I run into Flora and her husband. Rewind back to Madrid/ Madrid to Porto. This is the couple that brought there foldable bikes with them to Madrid/Spain. I was on the same bike tour they were on. And they overheard me talking to others about ...
Córdoba, Spain kasia-waw... watch for most of the lunch. Becky and I both did a tapa lunch and Pepita & Loli had paella. The restaurant was packed and it was really nice of Pepita to take us out because most people's senoras wouldn't do things like this. Some people only get soup twice a day because their families just want to make money off of them and soup is cheap. I can't believe how lucky ...
Sevilla, Spain mingozingo... and we went to a great Chinese restaurant. It was really good and pretty inexpensive. Afterwards we went to another movie but I don't remember the name. It was really sad and depressing and of course all in Spanish. However, there were parts of the movie in English and they didn't have Spanish subtitles for the Spaniards so I'm not sure if we were supposed to understand those parts. ~Megan
Sevilla, Spain mingozingoHola! I love Fridays! I woke up early this morning to go to the CIEE center and use the Internet and then had my 3 hour class. I went back after lunch to try to use the internet more but the server was down, which happens a lot, and I was unsuccessful. I was so excited when I realized that in two weeks I won't have any class on Fridays! After I came back from the center, I dropped off my stuff and ...
Seville, Spain mingozingoSince I wasn't sleeping, I spent the morning cuddling with my little Mina who was snuggled up in a little ball on my pillow. She is so tiny that she fits comfortably enough that I have all the pillow room I would need. I gave up and got out of bed at 9:30, and Mina was very distressed that she lost her cuddle buddy. I got ready for the day and I left to go to EUSA, where I spent the morning. At lunchtime, Cindy and I were waiting for Cloti to make us lunch when she told us ...
