Years of working on to obtain DOC (Dept of Conservation) funding finally came to fruition and over the years the couple, and their now grown children, have not only take a species from near extinction (The White Flippered Penguin is endemic to the Banks Peninsula) to a strong population in excess of over 1300 breeding pairs on their property alone.
