We were advised that a visit to Hanmer springs Thermal pools would knock 10 years off us. Eager to know what it felt like to be 22 again and care free, I was up for that. Hanmer springs town is an Alpine village 90 minutes from Christchurch and through rocky mountains and lush forests. It is nestled in the magnificent south Islands high country. As we approached the town, we drove down a beautiful oak-lined street with a stunning backdrop of towering mountains and forest covered hills. ...

... the day. Drove to look at Port Hills - 'Sign of the Kiwi' - once again it was too foggy to see much. I found a street sign in Sumna that said Wakefield Ave! Cool. Maeve's mom treated us to lunch and a movie. We ate at a cute cafe in Christchurch called Brigitte's and then saw 22 Jump Street. It was hilarious. But sadly, we had to get to Christchurch, so we packed down the van and made the short drive into the ...

... and everyone enjoyed Christmas and is having a good 2014 so far. Our road trip is taking good form now and keeping us motivated, first stop will be back to Akaroa before Queenstown, west coast and the Franz Josef glacier, Abel Tasman, Nelson and then North Island, starting with Wellington, up to Rotorua, Whangarei and then finish in Auckland. We'll be camping for a month or so, and we can't wait. We'll definitely be back on before then anyway, love to all at home, Dan and Laura. ...

... to see Captain Phillips, a true story about a ship hijacked by Somali pirates. An interesting film that we both enjoyed. There was a box full of old film posters for sale, so we bought 3 to make our room here more homely as it was just a large bare room with no life. We are spending four months here so we want to make the room our own. We stayed over in Chch and took the van to a place called 'Guy's Garage' picked by Danny of course in the morning. We waited nervously as the van ...
