Cairns, Queensland, Australia luclegrandexploG'day we woke up early with the kids running around upstairs which was a nice change to other backpackers gibbering in German. Our room is downstairs and the main living area is upstairs all on one level, the type of house is seen all over the place with the ground floor being open to the elements except for a couple of rooms but this allows the air to circulate around the building keeping it cool in the heat. After saying bye to Mark as he headed out the ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia gaz-ljYesterday I took a drive to the Atherton Tablelands. First stop was Lake Barrine, where I took a 5km walk through the rainforest around the lake, and spotted half a dozen bush turkeys, many unidentified birds, and a handful of marsupial critters scurrying about in the undergrowth, as well as some mind-bogglingly huge fig trees. Next was Lake Eacham, where I added saw ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia whereverThis trip was the perfect mix of relaxing and adventuring. Britt and I both fell in love this this city and we never wanted to leave. The people are all so laid back and there is a balance of beach and mountain. We went snorkeling at 2 different locations of the Great Barrier Reef, took a trip to the night zoo and went white water rafting. Everything I did on this trip made me love Cairns even more ...

Cairns, Queensland, Australia jillybear... to do it again. We both were happy about deciding to do it and will try and do the PADI course at some stage in the future. During the epic lunch we went to Turtle Reef for some snorkelling. Here we saw piles and piles of fishes, big ones, little ones, colourful ones and the odd killer one. Just kidding! Myself and Harvey did see a shark, however, we saw a white tipped reef shark that was about 2 metres in length but completely harmless ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia ollieandmeals... north for our final day to The Daintree rainforest and Cape tribulation where we saw Crocodiles in the wild, huge spiders in the rainforest and Koalas in a habitat. We cheekily blagged a free upgrade on our trip so we got free buffet lunch and free entry to the rainforest habitat. To enjoy our last night we had a nice big meal overlooking the sea and then for a swim in the pool surrounded by bats. A really great and wild end to a great 6 week tour of Oz.
Cairns, Queensland, Australia dawsones... along with a signed Le Cordon Bleu cookbook from our chef. Our class was treated to a special menu selected by our chef and prepared by him and his assistants in the Signatures dining room. The Signatures restaurant is the only Le Cordon Bleu restaurant on board and our class enjoyed the private special evening with our chef! A fine ending to a fascinating step into the world of Le Cordon Bleu!
Cairns, Queensland, Australia glo_and_richard... streets it is clear how much this city has come to survive, make that thrive, on tourism. It’s also a very laid back and relaxed city – from the locals and bunches of tourists idly ambling along the footpaths, the casual dress code of shorts, tank-top and thongs in the pubs (by “thongs” I mean the footwear otherwise known as flip-flops or jandals), to the kid of no more than fifteen who casually asked me if I wanted to buy some weed off him as he ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia troywilkinsonIt rained off an on the whole time we were staying in Cairns. We had just enough nice weather to get a some sun and most of the time when it did rain, we just put on something waterproof and got on with it. Sometimes though, the weather can make or break a trip and unfortunately, constant rain did rather ruin our trip to Sandy Cay. It sounded idyllic: a ...
