Midvangur 5 - 7 Egilsstadir, Iceland, 701, 471-1500
... got to chat to Larissa in NZ. The food was fantastic too. It was so freezing outside, but so cosy inside, we really didn’t want to leave.

Eventually we had to move off back over the mountainside to find our hotel, and what a gorgeous find that was too; a lakeside room full of querky furniture with a heated floor. Good job really as there were wet walking boots and socks to dry from the sea incident in the morning.

Eskifjorour, Iceland lindsey-canadaWe continued on our way east along the Ring Road with a detour to Dettifoss - the most powerful in Europe. There are two roads to the falls and one is for 4 wheel drive only so we took the east road which was washboarded, bumpy and dusty...but we got there. This waterfall is on the second largest river in Iceland and flows from the Vatnajökull icecap ...

Seydisfjordur, Iceland jpbigan... home where the lifelong stone collection of a woman named Petra is displayed. The display is enormous, both outside and inside her home, and having a geologist available to explain peculiar ones that catch our eyes is wonderful. I joke that we came here to be "Petra-fied." (sorry) After going through a long (about 4 miles) tunnel, we emerge at our final fjord of the day, Reydarfjordur. It is the location of a ...
Egilsstadir, Iceland wareameye... do it justice - assuming I can get any to upload. We had an early excursion so we were up and rolling early. At most of our stops, they have had excursions meet in the performance hall, where you get a sticker that helps the crew guide you to the right bus. Chaos reigned on this particular morning. One gentleman actually stood up and said something like, "Listen everyone. In all my years on HAL, things have never been run this poorly. We need to make ...
Seydisfjordur, Iceland poleary6... it...now this guy was enormous, like seven feet tall and just a big guy with a big orange work suit on....and his hand was big and sturdy...so I figured I could trust this guy not to drop me in the river....I accepted his generosity - he even promised he'd be there for the return crossing - transformed the whole experience for me...and gave me the opportunity to experience another side of Icelanders...I'm liking these Icelandic men a ...
Egilsstadir, Iceland rawhideoneDay 9: July 15, 2007 Reykjahlið to Egilstaðir I swear that one of the reasons I come to Iceland is to get a good sleep! I did not awaken in the night for the first time in years. I got up at 7:00, packed, and struck my tent. After a quick breakfast, I went up to the reception and met Sigfus. In spite of the low clouds, we drove to the other side of the lake and pulled on to a shoreside farm road. About 25 swans swam just offshore ...
Egilstaðir, Iceland magellanic... reject! After my cafe reading siesta, I walked back to my hotel. Dinner was at the hotel and I dined on vegetable cutlets in a peanut sauce and some tomato soup. It's the healthiest food I've had in Iceland. It was pretty good, but not altogether memorable. The rest of the evening, it was just me & Captain Corelli - a fine companion on a foggy night. Play on maestro... P.S. Oops, forgot to mention! The truly miraculous happened - I ...
