... range to the north. At one point we even saw an ancient section of the Great Wall although it looked nothing like the other section we visited earlier as this wall was very short and in major need of repair. After driving all day, we arrived at the Rainbow Mountains just after 16:00 in Zhangye National Geopark. The Rainbow Mountains are multicoloured rock formations known as Danxia rocks in China. ... after just a minutes wait heading to Zhangye. Once back in town we took a taxi to the train station where we boarded the 5.44pm train for the 5 hour ride to Lanzhou. We managed to negotiate seats together, for as usual they'd booked us ones apart! We settled into our 'hard' seats, munching bread and KFC egg tarts for dinner, getting up to date with travel pod (at last!) and watching a 24. We arrived into Lanzhou at 11pm, where ...
