... Foreign Language school where we met with teacher from England, India and other speaking countries. That evening we went to see the kites wired with lights and flying in convoys (some of them) the others very large and shining with colorful lights. At this point the temperature was freezing with a ver low windchill factor.

... see the kite festival, we picked up some Chinese fast food (a sort of turnover with meat and veggies) and squeezed our way into the crowd. The sky was filled with thousands of kites of all colors, sizes and shapes and the crowd was enjoying itself. We only had 45 min before leaving to catch the train, but it was worth the stop to experience the festive atmosphere. Fun to see people enjoying themselves so much.

... carved jade, sculptures of classic heroes and Buddhas, household decorations, calligraphy and paintings. We were photographed with artists and public officials and interviewed by the media! Fan Yan, who met Spencer last year in Lexington, gave me a kite and a small clay tiger for Spencer.
Then back to the kite festival with the local C Party Secretary for a few hours in a crowded field of families flying kites, eating picnics, many vendors but no competitions ...
... before we leave Weifang. It's a pink coy fish kite, which happens to be a very appropriate keepsake since Weifang is famous for its kites. My kite is nothing fancy, but while shopping we got to see a lot of really neat ones! There were lots of animal kites like mine, some made specifically for decoration, and others that were so big I could hardly imagine getting them up in the air!
