The Hakka buildings were amazing. the families used to live communally in a fortress type building, with the animals on the ground floor and living accommodation above, very similar to Shakespeare's Globe.
We had a tea tasting session and walked through little stalls selling tobacco, fruit, crafts and tea.
A really lovely trip, which only cost us 218RMB for the whole day from 7.20am to 7.20pm. Fabuluous!
... But it was a total mob scene with Chinese tour groups. Ended the day leisurely wandering around the village my Tulou was in and found it nice and peaceful like the first cluster I visited. Then spent the evening hanging out in the courtyard of the Tulou in which I was staying. I realized that it definitely was a historic Tulou when the occasional tour group trickled through. Pictures will say much more than this narrative will but sadly the Internet at this new Hostel is not great either ...

... reaching the panda exhibit. The two pandas are 'married' but hate each other. They are always on opposite sides of the cage : ). Luckily, one of the pandas was sitting lazily on a platform covered in a blanket of bamboo while it chowed down. Every once in a while, she/he would throw the bamboo everywhere then settle down to eat again. We got some very good pictures of this one but the other one had its head in a cave...and no ...
... I wasn't offered one, I very much doubt that its safety value would outweigh looking quite that much of a tit. I had been aware that the Chinese liked to smoke and I had seen a much larger proportion of smokers from Hong Kong onwards, but the people here just made them all look like lightweights. Every one of them seems to have a little white stick permanently attached to their lips. They are very polite though, in just 2 hours of being here I think I had to turn down ...
