The Hakka buildings were amazing. the families used to live communally in a fortress type building, with the animals on the ground floor and living accommodation above, very similar to Shakespeare's Globe.
We had a tea tasting session and walked through little stalls selling tobacco, fruit, crafts and tea.
A really lovely trip, which only cost us 218RMB for the whole day from 7.20am to 7.20pm. Fabuluous!
Took a day trip by car to visit a few Tulou clusters near where I was staying. The Tulou are absolutely stunning. Self contained multi-story villages. They all had wells in the interior courtyard as well as sometimes wells in the living spaces. The first group I went to was vey peaceful because it was earlier in the morning and not the huge tourist draw. Had a great time wandering around. Then I went to see "King Tulou" the claim to fame of which is that it's ******* huge. Like really ...
... at it was watching TV shows. Specifically Growing Pains! I said I grew up watching that too. We agreed that House is also a great show and that Hugh Laurie is both of our favorite actors. The four of us chatted for probably 2 hours chewing sugar cane and eating peanuts. Once again photos will have to wait until I have better internet. Heading to the airport early tomorrow as the choice of buses is limited. Hoping there will be good wifi ...

I cannot WAIT to get back to regular bathrooms in public places!! : ) We drove back from the airport and saw nothing but apartment buildings...EVERYWHERE. Our hotel was very nice, and we quickly dropped off our bags. Dinner was buffet with David and Terry. Terry and I joked about how piggy we looked with our dessert plates : ) : ) LOL : ). ... some of the more well maintained ones as it sort of felt more authentic. It really was like stepping back in time being here with the cobbled stone floors with chickens running about.
