... spent time at the hotel bar, ordering dinner and watching the World Cup. Tomorrow I plan to relax – I’m starting to feel worn down, with blisters. I want a day to just go at my own pace. I will probably take a canal cruise, and maybe find a good spot to watch the Netherlands play in the World Cup. Speaking of, sine they are still in the tournament, it’s crazy here with orange and blue lining everything – from the ceilings of bars ...
Took the train into Amsterdam. Hopped on the red tour bus and buzzed around the city. Got off at the Anne Frank Haus so Amy and Jen could visit. Jeanne and I walked to the 9 Street District. Higher end shopping area...nice but didn't see much. Stopped at a little pub with the girls and had a beer and more bitternballen. Decided ...
... did Switta, mitch came out a ghostly white horrified by what he saw and told anyone that would listen for the next few days how messed up he felt from it. The funniest part was when they were looking for some audience participation, they walked down our isle and before I had even noticed what they were doing mitch grabbed he so hard (I am surprised I didn't bruise) and pushed me in front of him so he could hide from the lady, I think he stopped ...

We stayed at the HEM hotel as we got it on an Expedia special rate. Rated on Expedia as a 3* it was more like a 2*. Outdated décor with a very strange outdoor indoor bit (we never did spot Yogie the Bear) but it was okay. It is a little out of town about 20 minutes from Central Station but only a short walk from the tram which runs to just after midnight, after which there is an hourly night bus.
The room wasn't filled with all the mod cons but was clean and warm. Nothing to write home about but adequate for a quiet night's sleep away from the action.
Value for money it was an excellent choice but don't expect too much

Stayed for 2 days in May 2003 in an economic twin room. The rooms were comfortable, of adequate size and spotlessly clean. Although the hotel is a little out of the way from the town centre, there is a tram stop 5 mins walk away. At night a taxi costs around 20 euros from the Leidesplein. All in all a decent hotel for the price. The only down side is that a lot of the main attractions aren't really within walking distance.
