Window shopping in Amsterdam!
Wow what a few days.
We woke up to a lot of snow, we weren’t just being whimps when we arrived! Simply put it is chuffing freezing! We quickly realised that we would need another outdoor jacket as we planned to save our ski jackets for Mongolia. So to Ross’ utter dismay we headed out to do some shopping, but can’t …
Cheese Market and Windmills, How Dutch!
We made our way to a cheese market in Alkmaar (30min north of Amsterdam) to see teams race to see who could weigh and carry the fastest. We got there just as the market was starting and we managed to squeeze a spot into the the crowd to get a poor view (go early to get a good spot). There had to be two tons of cheese or more in the square and four …
..And there's another museum!!!!
There are so many museums in Amsterdam that you would probably not do them justice in a month, and they cater to all interests. There is a handbag museum, a Tropical Museum, a resistance Museum, many art museums etc...Over our 4 days here we visited the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh, the Van Loon ( a canal house) and the Tropical Museum...3 of these …
Interesanti gan. …

TravelPod Member ReviewsHEM Hotel Amsterdam
We stayed at the HEM hotel as we got it on an Expedia special rate. Rated on Expedia as a 3* it was more like a 2*. Outdated décor with a very strange outdoor indoor bit (we never did spot Yogie the Bear) but it was okay. It is a little out of town about 20 minutes from Central Station but only a short walk from the tram which runs to just after midnight, after which there is an hourly night bus.
The room wasn't filled with all the mod cons but was clean and warm. Nothing to write home about but adequate for a quiet night's sleep away from the action.
Value for money it was an excellent choice but don't expect too much

Historical Traveler Reviews HEM Hotel Amsterdam
Decent Hotel
Stayed for 2 days in May 2003 in an economic twin room. The rooms were comfortable, of adequate size and spotlessly clean. Although the hotel is a little out of the way from the town centre, there is a tram stop 5 mins walk away. At night a taxi costs around 20 euros from the Leidesplein. All in all a decent hotel for the price. The only down side is that a lot of the main attractions aren't really within walking distance.
