... tuk-tuks and open-sided people-movers (small buses)*. Horn tooting is used in place of cumbersome traffic lights. It's a sultry 30 degrees C (86 F) but not as humid as I expected.

You might scoff, but I’m here to say that you can learn about another country’s culture by visiting the local shopping mall. That’s what I did here in Cebu City. About two blocks from my hotel is a massive, four-storey, multi-branched shopping ...

... into their mouths. You can see the water being disrupted and being dragged towards them. It's quite amazing. The other thing you notice is their weird eyes out to the side of their heads. It reminds us of some of the places we stayed in Malaysia, lots of effort goes into the front of the hotel but then the rooms and toilets are neglected for hundreds of years. We had shifted from a fan room to an air con one because the fan room was like a sauna. When we went downstairs after a nap (for me) we tried to pay to lady on the desk. We had paid 10% through hostelworld and then changed to a more expensive room. ...

Snorkelling with whale sharks & Sumilon Island

... they certainly don’t feed them many fish, as there are shoals of them actually swimming alongside the whales – some a fair size!!

I went along to get my permit at 6am (the 'office’ opening time – a table on the beach) , where a guy who took his job rightly seriously, read from a laminated list of rules when in the water with these amazing creatures. Basically, not swimming within 2 metres, not getting too near their mouths ...
