        ... toooo hot, even for me! Thank goodness for A/C, we are both constantly shiny (Ian so much so that his students have offered him tissues in class to wipe his brow. I'm sure I need one too, but maybe my classes are a little less forward)

        ... students are the citizens and most peasants live outside the gate. I see many garbage pickers who make a ten thousandth as much as a "Duke". Most ride old chinese bikes from the 50's with a welded-on side cart for collecting trash. They dress poorly. They are mostly noticed for the genuine smiles on their faces. These poor folks idolize Chairman Mao, Chairman Mao fought for these people.

        ... been tightened so that this wonder will remain a treasure for everyone to enjoy. Before leaving we dropped in to Dr Lee's restaurant for a bowl of warming noodles...unfortunately Rob's careful selection off the picture menu ended up with a dish containing an unknown meat substance!         ... eventually - that when they heard my story upgraded me to Suite. They also are going to bring to\his to the attention of the tourist board. Day 2 - went to Longman's grotto - caves housing 256000 or so buddha's outside Luoyang. Absolutely amasing. I have photo's which i';; update at a later date! Luoyang is very old but the people are lovely - bloody mosies everywhere at night. Better start taking malaria ...

        ... landscape. The region is famous for the 20,000 massive limestone karst peaks, eroded into near vertical cliffs, and the traditional paddy fields that fill the flat valleys between. On the boat we met many interesting people including Doris & Anthony from Hong Kong. That night we went to see a traditional musical set on the Li river which involved 600 performers, including local fishermen, and illuminated the backdrop of karst peaks ...
