... The road winds through forested hills and the Fall foliage was just beginning to show its mettle. There are scenic lookouts at various spots and we sampled the Hairpin Turn and climbed to Whitcomb Summit (in the car, I might add). The scenery was stunning and we enjoyed a brief picnic in the warm sun. Then back into North Adams before climbing up to the highest point in Massachusets, Mt Greylock (almost 4000 ft up), with views ...

Little bit of housework (washing again) before heading out for dinner.

We have been daring and booked a hotel in New York City. Comfort Inn at Manhattan Bridge. They gave a good rate for a 3 night stay, Friday night to Monday morning. They have parking attached and Wes feels he should be able to drive us there. We will have our walking shoes on to cover all the sights. Will even go out at night!

Was raining slightly when we set off. Bought our lunch supplies from across the road at Big Y which must be a big chain as it had it's own home brands.

Headed west again on the Mohawk Trail towards North Adams. Stopped at Shelburne falls where we walked across a bridge which has been turned into a garden. It has been that way for many years and the wisteria are huge. Saw some glacial pot ...
