... we weren't supposed to know that EVERYTHING was closed on a Sunday here! So with that we got back in the car and set off for the other towns we had in mind to see over the next few days.
Within an hour we had seen the towns of Lenox, Stockbridge, Great Barrington and Lee - ok, so maybe we didn't anticipate how small and sleepy these towns actually were!

Just before leaving Mechanicville we got an email from Lock One Marina that they had still not received our filters.... at least we now knew we would be at our anchorage at a good hour! We left just after 8 am to tackle the last two locks in the Champlain Canal and the Federal Lock at Troy. We did still stop at Lock One Marina for diesel, and he filled us up so quickly we were even still able to make it through Lock 1 with the other sailboat Callipyge we had been traveling ...
It was a two hour train ride from Grand Central to the end of the line at Wassiac, in Massachusetts. From there I was picked up and driven another hour to Alford, home to the Bevans, Mary's relatives who have lived in the States for the last 50 years.

... on an area no larger than 5-10 square feet. The rock ended up in this position when the glaciers that once covered this area melted and left this for us to see. It was unfortunate that this cool natural feature has been vandalized by ignorant people spray painting various things on the rock face.
All the same, it was a neat thing to see. Tomorrow, we are off to learn to kayak rapids in the Deerfield ...
