... favourite, with the cathedral's plain ceiling covering a series of smaller shrines, including that of St Cuthbert. Back outside, we visited the Cathedral Library via the cloisters. A librarian (a Kiwi) gave us an impromptu chat about the 13th century building, which used to house the refectory and the dormitories. Went back through the cobble paved alleys of town. Day 9
... around Meadowhall - again. After my fairly unsuccessful outing on Friday, I decide to give it another try. I hate shopping at the best of times, and late-night shopping until 11 pm a couple of weeks before Christmas is not my idea of fun. The only bright spot of the entire evening is a brass band (maybe a former colliery band?) playing Christmas carols. Don't even like Christmas but they still manage to bring a lump to my throat.
