Historical Traveler Reviews Haytor Hotel Torquay

Excellent!!!

from anonymous

My husband and I stayed for one night at the Haytor and was absolutely enchanted with the whole experience. We were offered tea/coffee on arrival by a warm welcoming and friendly face.

We stayed in the four poster bedroom; excellent decor with a double aspect window - very pretty and more importantly spotlessly clean. Complimentary tea/coffee/biscuits plus bottled water also in our room and greatly appreciated.

In fact the whole hotel was spotless and a huge credit to the owners. Breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked - perfect. We will certainly make this our first port of call next time we visit Torquay.

Highly recommended.

Stunning hospitality

from anonymous

On arriving at the Haytor my daughter and I were immediately struck by the quiet elegance and style of the hotel and gardens. The warm welcome by the owners made us feel immediately at home and we were delighted with our large bedroom and immaculate en-suite bathroom. All the rooms we saw in the hotel were spotlessly clean and the decor appeared to be have been painted yesterday! It is obvious that much care and thought has gone into making this a very lovely and special "home" for all the guests.

The breakfasts were beautifully cooked and 'set us up' for the day.

We will have no hesitation in returning to this little jewel in the heart of Torquay, and in recommending it to all our friends and family.

Comfy and clean

we found this hotel to be friendly, clean and did a decent breakfast. The shower caused a few problems and we had no electric when we got back one night. But apart from that we enjoyed our short stay!.

Immaculate, Outstanding - Highly Recommend!

I booked this hotel as accommodation for a team of Managers & two Managing Directors from our company.

Shortly after checking into the hotel, I received calls from two members of the party informing me of how wonderful the hotel was! The next day I had other reports of how good the breakfast, service, cleanliness and location was and upon their return to the office each and every individual that had stayed at the Haytor, came and thanked me personally for choosing and booking the Haytor.

A truely wonderful place and somewhere we will definitely be staying again. We quite regulary book hotels and never have I received such fantastic positive feedback.

Very pleasant Easter stay 2005

from SandUK

My husband and I stayed at the Haytor Hotel this Easter (2005) and found it excellent value for money. We were made welcome on our arrival and our room, although the en-suite bathroom was quite small, was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and staff friendly. Will definately return.

Average

We were very disappointed my wife and I.

Expectations were high and we had been told previously that evening meals were available.

On arrival we were told that evening meals were no more and that restaurants/pubs were close by.However we were unable to get in anywhere decent as it was Friday night and most places fully booked. On our early return that evening the bar was closed and it was apparent that the two gentlemen owners did not want to encourage its use which was a shame as it was a lovely looking bar.Our bedroom was very small for a superior room and the shower room dated but clean. The noise from other rooms went on into the early hours, you could even hear other toilets flush !!Breakfast was OK.Parking was fine, but the hill up to the hotel from town was very steep if you are on foot.A bit on the pricey side we thought for the facilities offered.

Pleasant little hotel

from anonymous

Stayed here on the 3rd/ 4th April 2004. A clean and pleasant hotel.

Small rooms which with twin beds or even a double are slightly cramped.

Bathrooms are also small with shower facilities. The over all impression of the Haytor was a small houses on a quiet road, rather than "Country House", that had been converted into a hotel with an extension on the side providing additional rooms. Decor was slightly dated but pristinely clean and fresh smelling due to the numerous bowls of potpourri all over the corridors. Hotel seemed fairly empty until after 9pm when full conversations, televisions and voices could be easily heard from the other rooms. Noises from showers, toilets flushing and televisions in guest rooms were clearly audible throughout but levels reduced as guests slowly went to bed for the night. Weather was terrible which put a dampener so to speak on the visit to Torquay.

Conclusive impression is small rooms, small bathrooms but clean and friendly service.

Commendation for the Haytor Hotel

from anonymous

The Hotel is located a short walk from the Harbour with a number of local restaurants nearby. My wife enjoyed the shopping centre and facilities of Torquay and there are a number of beaches in close proximity to the east of the Harbour. The Hotel staff were always friendly and courteous and the rooms were clean and well furnished. I particularly liked the welcoming chocolate/flowers left in the room each day!!I would thoroughly recommend the Hotel and look forward to visiting on my next journey to the West Country.

We'll certainly return

An exceptionally pleasant hotel with decent service and accommodating proprietors. Well certainly return to return during our next visit to the West Country.
