Historical Traveler Reviews Hawthorn Suites Lake Buena Vista Orlando
Loved the place!!!!!!!!!
Stayed at the Hawthorn last year. Could not have been more pleased. The place was spotless. Complimentary breakfast was a real money-saver. The seperate bedroom was a plus. Staff was friendly and helpful. The family that travelled with us was just as happy. Will DEFINITELY stay there on our next trip to Disney............
Sorta OK, But....
3rd Diffrent suite type hotel we've stayed at in Orlando, Just very average. Pool is WAY small, Breakfast is about what you would expect. 2 of the 5 days we were there, they did not clean the room. Everyone raves about the location, but again, just average. All and all, it is Sorta OK.
Great Place for the $$$
Our family (my husband, myself and two kids under age four) just returned from our first Disney/Orlando experience. We will wait a few more years to go again, but the hotel was great! We could not have been more pleased. Having the seperate bedroom was essential with two little ones. The location was great too. Close to restaurants (we walked) and close to some great outlet shopping. The price I found online was unbeatable ($69 for a one bedroom suite). It was by the elevator, but the bedroom was on the opposite side and we never heard a thing. My only issue with the room was that when you turned on the shower it was very loud - no one could sleep through it.
Not bad for the money
Recently returned from a 9 day stay (Nov. 2003). Rooms were good size, location was great, and having a full kitchen for the rate ($79/night) couldn't be beat. The breakfast buffet was okay, (I'd recommend buying cereal and milk at Winn/Dixie 1 mile down 435 and eating in the room).
Pool was small but never croweded. Jacuzzi was usually only luke warm.
Closeness to WDW was great (5 - 10 minutes).
Not the Ritz Carlton, but Still Great
We go to Disney World every year just after Thanksgiving. Thus far, we've stayed at the Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, Hawthorne and Holiday Inn Family Suites. Without question, for the money, the best place we've stayed at to date is the Hawthorne. The Disney resorts were a wonderful experience and much more exciting to stay at, but also were triple to more than triple the price for much smaller rooms, no kitchen, no separate bedroom and a very expensive breakfast. The Hawthorne was so clean it could have opened the week we stayed there (12/1/2000). The breakfast could use improvement, but hey, it was free versus about $40 at the Grand Floridian. The pool is pretty weak, but it is usually too cold when we go anyway. A key benefit is that the beds are two queens versus most hotels being two doubles, and the kitchen has a full sized refrigerator versus most other suites hotels having the pint sized ones. We're going back to Disney in a few weeks and staying at the Hawthorne.
Home from home
My family (Husband, Daughter 17 and Son 14) spent three weeks in the Hawthorn Suites in August 2001 and returned again this year in August for two weeks and one week in Sarasota area. We just LOVE the Hawthorn Suites, its as simple as that - everything about it is 1st class, clean, quite, private, homely and close to all the attractions, there is ample parking and the suites are spacious. The staff are so friendly and went out of their way to help us. We had great meals almost everywhere we went but our favourite for good food and great value was the Golden Coral. We visited a little church nearby (The First Baptist Church of orlando just off the S535) and we were welcomed with open arms and made to feel like locals!!! Forget the Disney Resort hotels, after all you are just outside the gates when you stay at the Hawthorn Suites. The only complaint we heard when we were there was from two middle aged women complaining there was no Bar - but that suited us just nicely. (No bar - no noise) We knew on our return each night we would have peace and quiet, exactly what is needed after a day at the parks. IF THERE WAS ANOTHER 5 CIRCLES TO LIGHT UP IT WOULD NOT BE ENOUGH!!!
We loved the hawthorne suites, friendly people, great accomodations, and a reasonable price, what more could you ask for? The separate bedroom was great, I could stay up and not disturb the wife or child. I was very impressed with the whole hotel as it was clean and nicely laid out. I would recommend this place to anyone going to florida that wants a quality place to stay for a reasonable price as this hotel met all of our standards.
We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites for six nights in October 2003. The hotel is very clean and well kept. Our room was very spacious and our family of four never felt cramped at all. It was great having a full kitchen in the room for the mornings when we decided to sleep late, or to cook a quick (and cheap) dinner. The location is excellent...on the quiet side of Palm Parkway away from the noise of I-4. Quick drive to Disney/Seaworld/Universal. Hotel staff was friendly and very accomodating. The air conditioning is very powerful, but a bit too loud. The breakfast is adequate...but not quite up to the level of Embassy Suites. The bottom line is this is a great place to stay for not a lot of money. Suites go for as low as $69 per night.
My wife and I, our daughter and our 2 grandchildren aged 13 and 11 stayed at the Hawthorn Suites, Lake Buena Vista from May 2nd 2003 until the 16th May 2003. This hotel is an extremely quiet and pleasant hotel the suites are clean and tidy and contain everything that a family would need, 2 TVs, 2 queen sized beds in one room and a fold out bed that was surprisingly comfortable, the pool was small but was never over crowded while we were there, breakfast was wholesome and hot but became boring after 3 or 4 days needs a bit more variety, the complimentary drinks on an evening where good but because we where at the parks till late we rarely there to enjoy this. All in all a good and above average budget hotel we would definately stay here again, unless we could afford the Swan or Dolphin. As for Orlando and the Disney Parks in general, I have only one word, WOW! WOW and WOW (i know, that's 3 but believe me this is the greatest place on earth, weather 95 degrees every day and we had 10 minutes of torrential rain the whole of our holiday, parks were not overcrowded, in fact just nice. Best tip, see the Reflections of Earth Show at 9.00pm nightly at Epcot, the most outstounding display I have ever seen.
Great place to stay!!
We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites last October, 2002 and really enjoyed it. The suite was well layed out and well appointed and very convenient to the Walt Disney area attractions. Our free daily breakfast got us off to a great start each day and also saved us some additional money that we could use in the parks. Since the suite had a full kitchen we chose to enjoy some meals in our room, giving us time to relax after the long days at the parks. Our daughter especially enjoyed the pool. We often times had it all to ourselves. Overall we found this location to be close and convenient to the attractions yet safe, quite and relaxing. We will come back to this property again.

... I was unable to see them on Wednesday, so it was magical to see them for most of Thursday, all of Friday, and until the afternoon today (Saturday). On Thursday, we did the Backlot tour, Rock N Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Little Mermaid, and other things at Hollywood Studios-I love that park. Filled with the excitement of thrill ride w headed straight across the park to got on the parks other coaster 'Kraken'. Its amazing how much different height can make to a roller coaster. Both Manta and Kraken had really high tug hills and this made the rides so much more intense and also gave us a great view of the park.
