Today we headed off to Arthur and our much anticipated visit with the Amish. As we neared the town we passed our first horse drawn cart - it was exciting to see. We already knew not to take photos of the Amish people - they ask you not to as it is against their beliefs, so we took a quick snap of the buggy. Happy birthday to my love and my favorite clown, John! We celebrated after the show with wine, junk food, and four episodes of "Girls". A very lovely day which would have only been lovelier if we could have spent it with friends and family back home. But everyone sent John wonderful birthday greetings throughout the entire day, so I know we weren't far from people's thoughts. :)

We were met by Stella an expert on the Amish this morning for a tour around the Amish country. She explained the Amish way of life and pointed out many of their homes.
First stop was Millers Dry Goods....an Amish store that sells all sorts of fabrics, nic nacs and haberdashery. Lucky us.....they were having a sale!!!! Fabrics ranged fro $3-$8 yard. I didn't buy much there. ...

... us feel pretty good. Toward the end of our time with them, they got a call about a traffic accident but since they had the two of us in the truck with them, they had to call in and have someone else respond. Apparently showing up at an accident with a clown in the truck wouldn’t be the greatest thing to do…

... book a room ahead of time because we honestly didn't know how long we would be driving. We would have made it further than Altmont but there was driving rains for the last three hours of our trip and that meant slow going and when you combine that with the numerous road construction stints on I-70...it really added a lot of time to our trek.
