Koycegiz is a small village/town set on a lake - on the west coast of Turkey, inland from the Aegean Sea, famed for it's bird-watching and thermal baths.
I took a day-long boat tour the next morning (I unusually woke early, but that was more of a direct result of the ...
... of the world is explored, and that some areas can retain a look and feel unique in the world.
For me some of the best places are areas that retain a pleasant and unique environment, whilst subtly presenting me with the things that allow me to be more comfortable. Simply presenting me with an English menu describing the local cuisine would be a good example - not one filled with pictures of overly sweet iced-cream desserts.
... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.
Marmaris, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey davechrisdamo... before Hayden finally realized his problem. "Eee-ris Hotel?"
"Ahh, yes Ayy-den." Simly pronouncing Iris in the English manner, with the "I" making and "I" sound and not an "eee" sound had completely stalled communication. However, in this one instance I noticed two of them dancing about on top of a piece of marble. And I was the least of their concerns. It was, in fact, I came to observe, a death dance. One lizard was in the act of cannibalizing the other. The larger of the two had already, presumably, downed a portion of ...
Yatagan, Mugla Province, Turkey oldrover... On a steep slope.
My internal dialogue was starting to rehearse the directions to my approximate location that I might try to communicate (in English) to any search and rescue unit that I might be able to rouse through my cellphone. This would first entail calling my friend in Ankara, and trying getting something going through that route.
Well, it never became necessary.
After getting to the lip of the mid-level plateau I could see a paved road. It was the real ...
... charges for anything. So I contacted my banking institution for a second replacement to be sent. That took additional weeks, this process now being begun late in the first week in April when I finally gave up on hope for the mail route.
By the 20th of April the new card arrived by commercial delivery, and the PIN number similarly a couple of days later. I don't know why I took an additional week, but I made plans to depart Ankara on the 28th of ...
... named Sugar, (the kitten) and Rose, (the mother). After lunch we took a horse carriage to the top of a hill were we went on a ruin walk. There was a coliseum, an ancient library, and other ruins. We also saw Bollywood stars shooting a scene of a movie or music video. That was really cool. The woman movie star had her makeup crew and attendants that would shade her from the sun etc. When we were done with the ruin walk we checked in to a hotel for the night. It was a long ...
