Turkey day!

... very much like a Christmas dinner that we’d have at home. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and squash (gravy and cranberry too of course). The only really new thing on me was the Jell-o salad, pretty much a sweet mouse with marshmallows and fruit to be eaten with dinner. I can’t quite get the thing of having sweet with savoury, much ...

Rainy day

Today was a very rainy day, grey and damp, much like home. So we set out to the Corning Museum of Glass. It was a pretty cool place, lots of unusual glass sculptures and various artwork. There was lots of history stuff too, as well as fun educational things (I liked looking ...

Wine and ice cream!

... http://www.thirstyowl.com /

I had a fabulous time, the girl at Sheldrake who was pouring our wine was so friendly and insisted on letting us try a couple more wines than we’d actually paid for, which I thought was great! Turned out we got the same treatment at the Thirsty Owl too.

Both places were set right on the lake and the views ...

... for them, although I was pretty pleased that I wished the deer luck when we drove past yesterday.

We decided to hang out for a little while so Scott could grab a nap before heading off, we’d already arranged for Don to come over for a fun evening and he ended up beating us home even though he'd ...

Rainy day

Cable guy due between 1 and 3 today so not made too many plans, naturally he turned up at 11am while I was in the shower. Happily he had stuff to do that didn't involve access to the bathroom until after I’d finished. Then we celebrated the return of the internet all afternoon, I managed to start this blog (hopefully I’ll keep it up for a while at least) and played some ...

Exploring Ithaca

... Went down to a waterfall too, nice to see bits of everything. I spent most of the afternoon in the hairdressers getting my hair turned back to red, had such a fun time chatting to the girls who work there and the customers and they did a pretty good job on my hair too.

Nicky, the girl who did my hair was fantastic, I loved her to bits, I tried to convince her to call in sick and run off to New ...

First real day in America

... section, complete with marmite, Heinz, Cadbury and Birds custard! Couldn’t resist a couple of pictures, it was so funny. Came back and made a proper American sandwich with 3 layers of meat and 4 layers of cheese. All this took most of the day so we spent the evening watching DVD’s (Battlestar Galactica) and chilling out.

Entering the unknown...

Very early start, quick cup of tea and shower then off to the airport. Check in and time for my last cup of tea in England and a croissant to share. A very brave goodbye with Kate and then off through security, complete with a last minute list of things to pick up in the airport shops (Kate is very good at organising me with lists!).

Flight was fine, I ended up sitting next ...

Elmira NY

... on the side of the road along the way, hit by cars. You seldom see that in Canada.

Arriving in Elmira, I checked into the hotel and went out for a drive around town. Its a sleepy little down, running along side the Chemung River. Both sides of the river are developed, and there are several bridges across the river.

First Night had dinner at Pudgies Pizza, greasy pizza and surprisingly good.

Brief Honeymoon in the Finger Lakes

... thaw, but the way the stream have carved its way through the thousands of layers of slate was quite impressive. The trail (that is more like an old sidewalk) winding along the 2 miles of water, over a few bridges and tunnels and even a point where you can walk behind one of the waterfalls. It is a fantastic view through the wall of water overlooking a huge, long stone ravine. It was hot and muggy ...
