... very old man sitting there with sunglasses on. He had a big banner saying he was one of the 7 survivors of the genocide killings. I had read about this man prior to my travels so I knew it wasn't a scam. He offers to sell us a book for $10. Will asked him what the book was about and the man broke into tears and said you'd have to read it. It talks about how they tortured me and my wife and killed her. As emotional as I am plus a horrible start to my day I begin to get teary eyed. I ...

... of these atrocities are only just being tried for there war crimes now as the international community is only just gathering enough evidence and attention to get this far. After this sobering experience we head back to our hotel. It was an emotional and sad day to see and hear about the horrible time in recent Cambodian history. To think that I was alive whilst being oblivious to these atrocities, like almost everyone in the world. The Cambodians we subjected to genocide by their ...

Phnom Penh

A travel blog entry by johnnypanda on Feb 27, 2015

First stop in Cambodia was Phnom Penh. It's hot. It's really hot. A lot more mozzys knocking about too. On arrival at the hostel I met Mr Alex, a local tuk tuk driver and we planned a little day trip for the next day. First stop was the killing fields, a mass grave from the Khmer Rouge genocide. On arrival I was handed a set of headphones and began the walking tour. The story and details of what happened there are truly horrifying, as the rain falls each year, new artefacts ...
