The alarm went I contemplated leaping out of bed, thought better of it and went for the snooze option instead. 5 mins later I rose did my stuff and collected my belongings. Gordon had already been to the car with his luggage and lost his hat on route. I loaded the the bags onto the car and did the early morning bungie puzzle to secure everything and then joined my driver for breakfast. ... nice hot shower in luxurious bathroom ,wandered down to garden terrace with it's views and fabulous rose gardens and were presented with bottle of local wine and nibbles. Watched the sun go down, at 9 o'clock moved inside (getting a bit chilly) and were served a sumptuous dinner. Only one other couple staying so we were treated like royalty. What a change from Grazalema! Don't get me wrong we loved the village of Grazalema but this is a welcome change.

More walking today but something a little lower level – the
Ruta Cinco Villas (Five Village walk). A
circular walk taking in – you guessed it – five villages over 16.8 km.
To get to the start of the walk we cycled up towards the
village of Santa Cruz and left our bikes locked up behind a bush about a

... between Tordesillas and Salamanca in the heat of the day. We weren't too put off by this as we expected an easy 50 mile ride across largely flat terrain. What we soon learnt was that nothing is easy at 30 degrees. The land we encountered was featureless, a vast expanse of nothingness that meant finding shade was impossible and roads seemed to extend to the end of the earth. After breakfast, a cup of tea/coffee and various pastries we got ourselves packed up, getting the tents down, stuff packed only took about 15 minutes but it took almost an hour to get the Land Rover packed and the roof load strapped down, we will have to try and improve on that! A long hot drive through the deserts of central Spain, at our first Police roadblock on the motorway ...
