We left Salzburg about 8:30 this morning with a planned stop at the Hohenwerfen Castle. This is the fortress used in filming the Clint Eastwood movie "Where Eagles Dare". An impressive looking place especially from the mountain across the river from it. After enjoying the view of the castle, and surrounding mountains we headed up to the castle. It was a really neat place, but we could only stay for about 1 1/2 hours, because we still had ...

The winner is the best over both challenges. We wandered by the lakeside and through the town which was near deserted and everything closed until the next day. We grabbed some gelato and sat on the benches next to the lake and enjoyed the view. Our second day began with a hearty breakfast at the Pension Gudrun, ...

Austria (The Beautiful)

A travel blog entry by michi40 on Apr 20, 2015

Just when you think it can’t get any better than Germany, over the mountains (and through lots of tunnels) lies the gorgeous valley of Seeboden in Southern Austria. The landscape here reminds me of Switzerland, and our little spot looks out over green meadows, a lake, lush forests and snow topped mountains. Pretty and relaxing, but a bit cold. We stayed here last year, and our sweet landlady was as happy to see us as we were to see her. ...
