After trying to find somewhere to stay in Zurich and finding nothing reasonably priced, we opted to stay in Lucerne about an hour away and just do a day trip into Zurich. Lucerne was really nice, we enjoyed our last few days in Europe and managed to do just a bit more walking.Being another smaller town, we were able to walk around most of it in a day - the old town was built on a river along with an old covered ...
... did a bit of shopping and wandering around. We went into one particular shop twice. I tripped walking in and out of this shop each time. (everyone should know by now that Amanda cannot walk!).
We met up with Adrian, our couch host and he is very nice. He has a huge apartment ten minutes from central lucern and has helped us to plan out much of our plans for tomorrow. He also gave us beer.
Plans for tomorrow are a bit hesitant ...
... train to Lucerne as this was direct and ended up being faster than if I'd left earlier, also it meant I didn't have to switch trains three times and could sit back and relax and enjoy the scenery. One thing which has occurred to me since travelling in Switzerland is that for a fairly small, landlocked country, the weather and scenery can drastically change between areas not far from one another. For example, I left Geneva yesterday ...
Lucerne, Switzerland emmab... This bar was literally a one-minute walking distance from the door of their apartment to the door of the bar. It was great. A girl from Poland, Magdalena, joined us and it turned out to be a very good night. I learned a lot about the Swiss, Polish, Germans, you name it. Too bad I can't remember it. I blame it on the beer. July 8 Today was one of the best days of the trip. We travelled up to Mt. Rigi, which was very near the city of Luzern. We first ...
Lucerne, Lucerne, Switzerland melissamiaToday was one of the days we had planned to possibly head to Grindelwald and up the Jungfrau but since the weather was a bit overcast we decided to wait it out and hope for clear weather to come. We decided to head to Luzern, about an hour by train from Bern. We spent the day here, just touring around the old town and checking out the Kunstmuseum Luzern. They have quite a large Picasso collection ...
Luzern, Switzerland aalverson... with come beefy NHS paychecks (is that an oxymoron?). Although some of us may already be quite acquainted, and thus put yours truly, who dated a jeweler-watch-salesman for 3 months, to shame. Not that he bought me anything remotely approaching 200 quid. I have discovered recently that, to my surprise and slight horror, it is quite fun browsing grocery shelves in foreign countries to compare things like prices (this word was not even in my ...
Geneva, Switzerland beckster23.7.06 Wynigen It was a very hot day so Sylvie (next door) let us swim in her pool, ahhh, delicious. We were happy to relax and get to know Sue's family under the gazebo. We laughed and talked a lot. Esther speaks very good English and so do the boys, but Des had to work on Hans Reudie a bit. They took us for a drive to the Emmentaal cheese making factory and bought us the biggest and fanciest ice creams imaginable. Dear old Grandma Anna joined us after a barbecue dinner.
Wynigen, Switzerland jennykellyAfter spending an hour at the parking garage/internet cafe yesterday I still had a lot of time to kill before one of the other recruiters came in around 9:00 PM. So, I got my hair done at this great little place not too far from my hotel. The hairdresser didn't speak a word of English, and I understood none of her German, and yet my hair looked better than it does at home. For a moment I seriously contemplated moving to Zurich so this woman could do my hair ...
Zurich, Switzerland choyt1427... CHF 20 tip, so i was happy at least so i treated myself to lunch and dinner!!! And now on to this week well after being a lazy **** and staying in bed most of Monday, I worked Tuesday in resort and then skied on Wednesday and what a great day it was sunny and the slopes were empty so i cut the piste up good and proper and did an excellent wipe out on a black run that i had not skied before but recovered and carried on. Interlaken, Switzerland sheffster... Heidelberg, and I met these two American soldiers who had just come from Bosnia, you know? And we're drinkin' at this bar and ****, right? I swear to God, the last thing I remember is bein' in this bar, drinking with these two American soldiers, and we're swingin' our mugs back and forth singing, "WE ALL LIVE IN A YELLOW SUBMARINE" like that. And I blacked out, dude. I don't know what happened. My friends have told me before that they woke up the next morning and can't remember ...
