Preparation
... and I hope to be underway at about 7. Weather and traffic permitting I'll be on the ferry from Calais to Dover at 1.30pm, to arrive at Eastleigh, Southampton late in the afternoon.
I'll be staying with a host family, because I see this stay in England as a good opportunity to brush up on my speaking skills, to improve my accent and to enjoy a bit of British family life.

Part 1: Preparation

Last night in the "Homeland"!
... will be a public holiday for the celebration of the reunification of East and West Germany (ie when the wall came down). As such there was great celebrations this evening, fireworks, parties and celebrations. Amazing what you discover when not looking.
Again I think we were one of only a couple of guests at the hotel ... breatfast was very, very, quite.
Now to head for the bright lights of Amsterdam.

It Begins
... first destination, which is approximately 850km away. To aid them in a good start they made a nifty device called the Hitchhikinator-9000. A great and (almost) patented tool for informing car drivers of our destination. This will surely be of great help even though we will not need it to succeed of course.
Let us pray that they make it to Munich in one day.
